HI everyone,
Thinking of heading to Bali in feb, done a lot of googling and getting slightly overwhelmed! So many breaks and places to stay etc and I know many of you have been here before so I would be grateful for any advice you may have to offer. I'll write up what we (or I, haha) require, keeping in mind my ability level - as in I don't feel comfortable in anything over 3 ft, I know I'm a pussy, but i just don't enjoy it, scares me a bit. My husband on the other hand is quite experienced so he likes the bigger stuff (but is happy to hang out in the "baby pool" with me). I'll be taking a SB only probably, we are only going to be there for a week or slightly longer. I am pretty much am looking for a nice, easy peaky little wave to have fun on, havent really had too much experience surfing reefs (kited reefs before but i guess its not the same), offshore winds (??wet season in feb and therefore onshore winds??), hopefully free of crowds (doubt it, but we are open to going anywhere). I'd prefer to have a surf guide around to show us the way and we want something 4-5 star close as possible to whatever breaks you suggest. See, I don't ask for much do I? haha
I've been emailing a few surf trip companies and they recommend Bali for what I am looking for, but hoping to hear your opinions.
I know many of you are experts when it comes to Bali (have read quite a few threads in here!) so I can't wait to hear what you all have to say!
Thanks in advance!

I'll be there end of Feb,Canggu will be your friend its a great place to hang out from the hassle and bustle with some nice peeks, good food and drink Lobster for 30 bucks, its only a 30 min ( no traffic) from Seminyak where you should hire a villa forget hotels you can get your own villa for a similar price. Also the Legion to Seminyak stretch has some nice breaks. Its currently the rainy session a mate who returned home today after a month said it rained most days,I've been there many times during Feb and had great weather.Need any other info driver where and what one must do just shout out and I'll send you a list accom, eat, drink ,shop, sightsee or whatever.

yes pls mac! would greatly appreciate it! I have looked at Canggu, my mate said it can get crowded, lots of aussies, pretty mellow/easy wave, but will it cop the onshore winds in wet season??, as we only have limited time I def want to make sure I am on the correct side of bali, dont care about the rain, just chasing the glass!!! Also looking at playgrounds on Nusa Lemgongan, looks pretty fun there too but again not sure about the winds.

I'm sure Mac will have all the info you'd need but I'll throw my two cents worth in.

My ex wife's sister lived in Bali for 5 years back in the 00's and we visited 3-4 times a year so I have some knowledge.

From an accommodation point of view and if your budget allows, stay at the Hyatt in Sanur or Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua - you are going in the 'wet season' so Sanur and Nusa Dua will both have good waves however Sanur has deep water and inside safety and you can walk to the break from the Hyatt and enjoy 5 star accom and waves.

Just my thoughts - enjoy wherever you decide.

Its funny ever though the winds favour one side you will still find a wave on the other,Keramas, Sanua and south will be good options also.Nusa Lemgongan is a great place we stayed at Coconuts while there.SA advice is also worth a look so may options, pending on what you want out of your trip.

thanks supanimal, every 2 cents is greatly appreciated! does wet season generally bring smaller swell or is it the opposite? smaller waves is key for me, being on a reef

Most will be hunting waves on the east side wet session however as I said earlier you can and will find waves on the east side with less out in the water.
Give some idea of what your looking for out of the water and I'll do a list.

i think u mean i will find waves on the west side with less out in the water??
Not that fussed about sight seeing, partying etc, we love a great restaurant, great food, we may do one big night out for sh1ts and giggles, but not really fussed, just wanna be in the water the whole time
maybe a nice day spa/massage place (not bad ones haha) after a long day in the water also...

It really depends....places like Nossa Dua can get huge!! But are also lots of safe fun at 3ft. I have surfed that side many times during the wet season and love it. Often you get waves with just a few others. Sanur like SA said is a great place to stay - loads of accom options as well and not too far from some really good waves. Sanur itself is amazing but can be a bit of a battle....lots of spots further east. Heading back towards Greenballs Sri Lanka can be a nice spot to get covered.

Lots of pics please

Below is a map of the more popular surf breaks, best in the dry session is the west side and rainy is the east as the guys have mentioned, however from my experience you can and we get a wave on the west side which will be less crowded off session.Nusa Dua is a good base camp with a heap of great hotels and restaurants also good shopping mall. From here you can hit Greenballs, Sanur , Serangan. You can also catch the fast boat over to Nusa Lembongan which is a must see/do.We stayed at Coconuts www.coconutbeachresorts.com/ Ubud and the Monkey Forest for a surfed out day.
