Part 7
Friday night came around and Hypo was re united with Cassie, they spent most of the time in Hypos room, only coming out for food, shower and bathroom breaks.
Early next morning Hypo was up at 5 am to check the surf. As he walked out the door there were two police officers standing there.
"John Mcevoy" one asked
"Yes" replied Hypo
"We'd like you to come to the station, the detectives want to talk to you"
"About what?" asked Hypo
"The deceased Russell Williams" the officer said
"Who is that?" asked Hypo
"Can you just come with us to the station"
"OK can I just?" Hypo looked back towards the house
One cop reached for his taser,
Hypo froze, "OK OK said Hypo, its cool"
Hypo knew his rights, but these two boys were real hard cases.
He didn't want to give them any excuse to hammer him.
They cuffed him and put him in the back of the wagon.
Fark what's this about, thought Hypo on his way to the station.
They processed him and sat him in an interview room.
In walked two detectives
"Oh sh1t," Hypo said under his breath
"Hello Hypo" said one "nice to see you again"
"Hello Mr Jacobs" replied Hypo.
"This is Detective Conner, Hypo," Hypo nodded
Jacobs was a Sydney D who Hypo had run ins with before in the old days.
"Now Hypo let me tell the story and then you can explain to me your involvement, OK?"
Hypo nodded.
On the morning of Wednesday the 15th Russell Williams' dead body was found in your room at Lacey st, he also had your wallet and id cards, on his person
"So Hypo" he asked, "can you tell me your whereabouts from say Tuesday night onwards?"
Hypo had to think hard.
"OK I was in my room Tuesday night, when Peanut came and we went out about 11pm"
"Does Peanut have a real name Hypo?
"No I just know him as Peanut"
"OK so where did you and Peanut go to?"
"We went to the RSL"
"Which one?"
"Sh1t! I don't know" said Hypo, Peanut just took me there.
"Ok, so after the RSL did you go back home?"
"I don't know" replied Hypo
"Why not?" asked the detective
"I was too pissed to remember"
"Ok so where were you on Wednesday?"
"In south Kempsey" replied Hypo
"Ok and who were you with?"
Fark thought Hypo,? "Bert! Bert saw me!".
"Ok whats Berts last name?"
"Fark I dont know" said Hypo
The two D's smirked at each other.
"Detective Conner can you run the alias Peanut for me and see what you can find."
"Sure" replied Conner and he left the room to be replaced by a uniformed officer.
"Its not looking real good Hypo
"You really farked up now"
"What where you trying to do,"fake your own death or something.
"I thought you'd changed Hypo"
"Mr Jacobs you have to believe me, I know nothing about this"
"Well lets see if we can locate this Mr Peanut and see what he has to say"
Conner returned with a file.
"Found him, I think" said Conner
Jacobs looked at the file.
"Is this your friend Peanut?" Jacobs asked
Hypo looked at the mug shot, "yes sir he said thats Peanut"
"Ok" said Jacobs in a tired way, "send a couple of uniforms to pick up Peanut"
"Farkin Peanut" Jacobs muttered.
"What is it with you Hypo, you just cant seem to stay out of trouble or something?" "Weve been looking for you for two weeks and we only fluked finding you after your little stunt at the rodeo."
Hypo said nothing, he had no answer
"We'll have to lock you up until we talk to your mate Peanut"
"Ok" said Hypo, with a sigh
Peanut was staying at Cheryl's when she got the call, Cassie was crying that the cops had taken Hypo away, she went looking for him and Eric told her he saw them drive off with Hypo.
"Sh1t!" exclaimed Peanut, "ok drop me at the cop shop and go and stay with Cassie" he said
Cheryl tried to argue that she should stay with him.
"Its ok please just go and stay with Cassie and I'll call you"
"Ok" Cheryl said reluctantly
Peanut fronted the desk at the police station.
Hypo sat in the cell for nearly 5 hours
He'd learnt being passive was usually the easiest way in situations like this, 'don't give em an excuse' Jimmy used to tell him.
The D's grilled Peanut for nearly three hours, about this and a few other matters they suspected him of being involved in.
Peanut could have run, but he didn't. Hypo would always remember this, and later it softened Jockeys attitude towards Peanut.
Peanut filled in the D's about Hypo's movements that night, also the RSL would have security footage of them both from that night. Plus he knew Bert's last name.
Although the other matters involving Peanut may come back to bite him at a later date.
The D's warned them both to stay out of trouble or they would be coming down really hard on them next time.
Cheryl and Cassie were waiting outside the cop shop when they were released.
Both girls gave their men kisses and hugs.
Cassie hugged Hypo and kissed him as the tears ran down her cheeks.
"I'm going to fark your brains out," she whispered to Hypo
Hypo gave a weak smile, "Yeah, I'd like that," he replied.
