How come surfboards don't have a molded in attachment so you can use a bike lock to lock them to your roof rack? Does something like this exist?

Always hungry after a session, head down to the bakery, it would be neat to be able to lock the board to the car somehow.

someone will tell you the name off these tie down ropes,good protection but a bitch to lock

Saw that on an ad, but thinking if there were a fitting a bit like the leg-rope fitting, you could get a padlock or wire rope through without it being a hazard on the board.

I brought one of these a while back and it works a treat. My advice would be to purchase several of the leash plug locks at the same time to reduce postage.

Those Kanulocks are good as well. They do tend to get a bit stiff and awkward / annoying to use a times. Make sure you spray plenty of WD40 on them regularly.

Hi kadil, I just have some wire loops I feed through the legroge plug then put a bike lock through the loops and around my roof rack.

I just went to the local yachting shop and got some stranded wire and crimped ends on to make a loop but
I don't really leave them on for long, it's a good detterant But the plug ones ted put up are probably the best I've seen

This would be a hell of a lot cheaper.....which means you have more money to either....(and in no particular order)

1. put towards a board
2. get a new wetsuit (very cold here today - almost like winter)
3. save towards a boat trip somewhere warm
4. buy more beer to drink so you can type more adventurous responses on sea breeze and entertain people like myself for hours
5. put towards a go pro so you can share your stoke
6. get yourself a bigger car / van that doesn't need roof racks

But yeah it works fine, they need bolt cutters to cut the wire and I just wrapped them in sparky tape to so they don't scratch, I was really too cheap to cough up for the other ones

Doesn't guarantee you're surfboards safe though especially if you have mates like that

I use one called a Slik-Lok, at around $100, they're expensive compared the others, but I haven't see quality like them in a long time.

Probably because they're 100% Australian made, not Chinese.




These type are crap.

I made my own, after using a friends slik-lok for a while. Mine is based on the Gumby Lock, that fits in the fin box. When I saw how it worked, I just cut, bent and drilled some stainless into the same format and got a bike lock to run through it. Cost me about $35 and some time.

Or get the slik-lock from Mick if you're around the Northern Beaches.

Fester that is the best lock I have seen so far you need to get a patent on that and get it out there before someone else does

I got the crap ones - they are a bastard to lock.
I don't lock them anymore and don't even know where the keys are.
I just jamb them shut and they look locked.

I have the same type on mine fester, just a little thicker, fits on most of my fin boxes bar one which I just lock the zippers together on the board bag to the ute. I have a metre odd long steel wire wrapped in clear plastic tube to lock it to the roof or ute racks. Love it, thanks to Billy or Termite on the Breeze.

You're dead right scotty, absolute garbage as far as the lock is concerned, probably the only thing they have going for them is the fact that they are a good tiedown, but that's it.

I see their adds nowadays are saying that the lock has been improved, well maybe it has but once bitten twice shy. They've already got some of my money and I don't intend to give them any more.
