Quite a few surfers have passed away in the last few months.

Obviously there are hazards that should be avoided, however, sometimes an accident happens that can't be controlled and a sad outcome, such as this is the result.

Rest In Peace mate.

Poor guy, RIP.....Margs is one of the most powerful places I've ever surfed & I've felt like I've almost died there a couple of times from hold downs. You can go over the falls there & be swimming up & up & up wondering when the surface will appear. Then realize you've been dragged so far in its like you've caught the wave, you just did it under the wave. You feel a massive increase in water pressure as waves pass over you there. There's a lot of power in those waves.

Not nice condolences to his family. Margs is a great wave when its not to big but it came be a challenge when the swell becomes over head high. You certainly need your witts about you when it gets crowded. And beware of the surgeons table at main break. I know it well, its not a nice place to land or end up on.

Really Ted,that would have been a great 50th for him.I had a surf at Sunset when I was about 19 but it was only about 4 to 5 feet, nothing compared to how big it gets,
but that's how it was when I was there!...

Like ET has said there seems to be an increase in the number of these types of events recently. Personally I think that it is not actually the hazard (surfing) itself that has changed but it is probably a combination of: 1. there are more of us in the water 2. more events are being reported (previous reporting bias has corrected - we see this in lots of spheres now as technology and a thirst for good news stories increases).

I wonder if a nose guard would have helped I was actually looking at them again the other night..

Just some of my fans trying to grind their axe..

My point about nose guards was because they are used all over Hawaii. Every shop carries them and especially for the long boards.. I guess it would be ideal for spots like Waikiki full of beginners/first timers but they were common up North also.

Ive been thinking of getting them for kids boards but i guess after this accident and even the one Greenie had, it would be helpful if you came into contact with the nose

They have lots of different models for noses, tails but this style was most common. I can't find them in any Aus Shops, (I haven't really looks that
hard)..
