Hi all,
Off to Hawaii in a month and will be staying at Waikiki. Has anyone been that can recommend a board hire place with decent boards and prices ? Just don't want to cart my own unless I have to. And what would be the average price for board hire ?
Thanks

Koa board sports. No question. Great selection of boards. They have a section outside where some boards are individually locked up - means you can hire a board for a week, keep it there, and pick it up/drop it off whenever you want. Particularly useful as I find a pre-Dawn surf to be one of the best times at Waikiki. Get a surf in before the crowds and still have breakfast with the fam.
can also swap boards as often as you like.
even better, great knowledge and service from the crew.
its been about 2 years since I was last there, but board hire was 25-30 USD a day. Most places on the beach will charge 20/hr for a beat up NSP.

I'll add that a be of my fave features is being able to swap boards as often as you like. Given they have a great range (granted, mostly surftech), it's a great way to try a bunch of different boards.

Which end of town? We rented from "Quality Surfboards" up near the Hilton complex.

Real boards, where everybody else had crappy Surftechs - and super cheap, was $60 for 4 days.

Also happy for you to chop & change as many times as you like (I had a brand new Stewart performance mal for the first 3 days, then swapped for a Takayama ITP for the last day when the swell dropped).

Damo's got a great point there - depends on which end you're at. You probably don't want Koa if you're up at Hilton Village end. Koa is the Diamond Head end, basically a street back from the Duke statue.

I'm very dam jealous. Wife and I were actually having a conversation today (started by her!) about going back soon.... but with a 2 yr old in daycare 4 days a week, it ain't happening any time soon.

Meet up with a couple of locals like I did they treated me like family,I never had a issue at queens, best wave in town.
I could never thank them enough, from introducing me to a who's who in the zoo,to how to get vip service at Dukes.
Lending me boards and giving me free hire boards, best guys just bummed I couldn't get back this year.

2yrs ago I hired from the Yellow umbrella crew near the Duke statue and if you got there early it was $10 for two hours and you could swap boards or stay out longer no issue. There were a lot of crap boards but also a few new ones for the early crew. I surfed Canoes mostly and if you show some respect, chat to them and wait your turn I found the locals would actually call you into a few waves - especially when they could see you were not a kook. I got a bag full each time I was out there - it's hard to stuff that wave up when it's on. Was looking to go back this year, but the tanking dollar and a shoulder recon killed that idea.

I loved the place. I'd love to go back for a month and do Maui this time.
