Happy New Year All,

I'm after some recommendation for a family trip to Hawaii. Looking for an all inclusive resort type base, on a beach that provides friendly waves up to about 3ft to keep everybody interested (basically beginner friendly), but with the ability to take a short drive to get something with a little more size.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

You cant beat Waikiki it ticket all your box's we stay at The Outrigger On The beach (Dukes Bar ) pending time of year you have two great breaks within walking distance left and right of hotel, the break out the front is perfect to lean in.

September and December,September was unreal weather and surf August would be better the locals have told me south shore swell

December was cool and sometimes too cold we had a lot of wild storms and heavy rain.

For a all round resort style, you could also consider Turtle Bay on the North Shore.

Never stayed their personally, but snorkelled their waters many times

We've been lucky enough to travel to Hawaii four times in the past two years.
Every trip we have stayed in Waikiki for some or all of the trip.
Each time we've been in Waikiki, we've stayed in the Queen Kapiolani. Right down next to the Zoo. Love waking up look at both the sea and Diamond Head - and not tourist central (which yes, we're part of). And still walking distance to everything. Well, most things. We've never walked further than the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

If you do go to Waikiki, KOA Boardsports is the place to hire your board from. I typically rent a board for the whole time I'm there, but you can swap that board as many times as you like.... and I do!

Last trip, with the fam, we stayed in a great spot on the Ka'anapali stretch near Lahaina on Maui. Apparently there's a break right in front of the hotel, but it never looked like much more than a lake the whole time we were there.

Loved the Big Island, particularly for it's snorkeling. Over the two trips we've taken to the Big Island, I haven't noted much in the way of surf. But that's sometimes how it is, right?

Cheers!
