I've never been there so I wouldn't know, I'd rather run my knuckles over a cheese grater than go there.

I found the clip in the Adrift blog, this was the commentary that went with it, don't really know the person who wrote it"

" I was checking the surf forecast sites yesterday hoping for some good news after what has been a pretty sh!t summer so far for waves. Came across this clip of pretty solid Mavericks & some dickhead on a SUP thinking he has some kind of chance with this wave. Hilarious to watch but in all seriousness a really, really stupid play & pretty dangerous for not only himself but the other guys as well. There are some surf smart users of these boats but, there are far, far more idiots like this clown. Its thick, unstable, quite lightweight for its size & totally unsuited to the waves this guy has decided to paddle out in. There in lies the problem with these things. Too many clowns with little or no ability paddling them in places where they have no place being. I believe anyone can ride whatever they want in the surf. We're all there for the same reason but you need to know your limits, show respect for others & don't leave your manners on the beach. Paddle out with with the right attitude & we'll all get our fair share. The guys that surf Mavericks & other big wave spots use the boards they do for good reason. Why this guy even attempted waves like this on what is clearly the worst choice of equipment ever is even more justification that the sooner these things are policed in some way or given their own designated area the better. In the meantime have a good chuckle at this guy he is probably still got water dribbling out his nose! "

What a load of dribble - so that guy has never seen anyone on a surfboard go over the falls there?

Lots and lots of suppers out at the alley on sunday morning without a really good idea of whats required.

Guys with boards sideways with waves coming at them and all sorts of stupid stuff.

Have too agree with some that sometimes its way too easy to get out there on them

I believe the answer to your question would likely be "yes, he has"

However, this is the blog I found it on, so you can come to your own conclusions.

My conclusion is that it is some bloke from the central coast who has probably never been within cooee of Mavericks, and has used a 15 second clip to push his own agenda. Best of luck to him.

not defending anyone I surf longboards and SUPs ,

when the surf is pumping have a go at getting out the back on a SUP and see how easy it is ( much harder then on a longboard and 10 times harder then on a shortboard ), and I keep reading this stuff where people are saying getting out the back on a SUP is too easy

really think the problem is the bloke in charge of the board , not the surf craft being used .

I have been dropped in on , cut off by , had to miss people on shortboards / longboards / surfskis / kayaks / SUPs / bodyboards / swimmers , and the breaks here definitely aren't crowded .

You could not be anymore wrong. On the beachies at a good size there are no 666 in site, as you stated it's hard. Check our points or reefs and you end up with knobs like that bloke in the clip.

Yes I know there are dickheads who ride all manner of craft. The most arrogant, uneducated and plain ****ing greedy ones are sadly people who ride 666

Sorry Chrispy. I ride long, short & SUP. There is no particular board type that has a monopoly on arseholeness. You gets idiots on all three. The only reason SUP gets such a high profile on the idiot scale is because they're relatively new and s pretty easy way for newbies to get out in the surf.

I find the worst SUP riders are the ones who should know better... you know the ones... have ridden short or long for years and often were just as bad on them.

Not an apologist for SUP just think that dickheads come in all shapes and sizes.

I ride kneeboard, longboard, SUP love em all correct me if Im wrong but I think the bloke on the big gun is dropping in sure the SUP is way to deep but the prone surfer should have given him the benefit of the doubt that he might make it he was paddling in regardless and if he copped the SUP in the head well IMO he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A SUP or one of those big guns is gonna do the same damage and plenty of prone gun surfers faaark up at Mavericks and drop in on each other its just the bitter and twisted old mal riders getting a bee in their bonnets about SUPs again
