Thanks, I wasn't expecting the result to look so far out either. We are doing a smooth leading edge version for comparison, both will have an Eppler 168 foil:

I would be worried about that thing hitting me in the shin!

Is that a serious question?

Gull Wing fins have quite a following, especially in Australia. The surfer who ordered this fin rides McCoy Gull wings, because he likes the ride... seems obvious really doesn't it?

I've had my share of McCoy's and can honestly say that the Gull fin that comes with them are ****.

They have zero drive and are totally at odds with forward momentum on a wave face.

Maybe that's why his popular boards are glassed thrusters ?

Sorry Roy, but using the McCoy Gull fin as an illustration does nothing for your cause.

Disagree, I have ridden one on a zot and liked them a lot. Was a very directional fin that allowed it to travel to far more places on a wave than other single fins I have ridden. The drive was hard to say because they were nice bowly waves. I would love to whack a gg fin in the same board to compare. Yet compared to other singles I have ridden I will give it good rating

Handsome is as hansome does is my philosophy.

Personally I think it's a lovely looking fin.

My 'cause' has bever been tp please everyone. I'm pleasing myself and the person who ordered the fin, it's creating a lot of interest especially amongst Gull Wing afficionados, and that's a bonus.

It's possible that your experience had something to fo with fin placement, the Gull wing should be positioned further back than other fins.

The gullwing is a good fin for McCoy boards. I use one in a 7'1" astron zot and a 9'2" allround longboard. They allow for good turning. Positioning in the finbox is critical; small differences make a huge difference. Too far forward- lack of drive and a sqirrelly feeling. I prefer them further back and a more positive, if slower, turning feeling.

Hey Roy,

checked your website and mann, there's some beautiful innovation, science, experiment and serious soul going on there. Awesome dude, seriously amazing work...

I have a confession, I have a slight fin addiction

loving experimenting with different designs and set ups, mostly on my 10' log and seems your design works well as a nose rider for hold which is where I'm focusing atm. I normally run a 10" on this but what would you recommend in your range for smaller waves?

Think of the plus side , it would come in handy in the kitchen ,arty cheese and vegetable slicing ,
maybe the odd pastry edging, not to mention removing old wax from your board.
