Are any of you guys involved or keeping a close watch on this? Maybe there is a a job going as the local surf policeman - you might even get sick pay and super

surfcouncil.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/surf-management-plan-structure.pdf

Surf zone management plan to get input from various groups18 September, 2014 - Various organizations will have representatives at the upcoming Surf Management Plan Advisory Committee on the Gold Coast next week. The forthcoming meeting on Sept 29 comes after much laboring by local groups including the NSR and Gold Coast Surf Council. The event will be hosted by the City of Gold Coast to develop and implement a surf management plan. The Gold Coast is currently home to three National Surfing Reserves: Burleigh, Currumbin and Superbank-Kirra - the southern point breaks. Brought on by the formation of a city-wide representative surf council (Gold Coast) in late 2012, it is anticipated this historic Surfer Policy Statement formulation will set the benchmark for all world surf cities.

There is a cross-section of views on how to present, articulate and propose local government 'by-laws', if necessary, for present and future challenges for surf zone management. The Gold Coast Surf Council was formed to address unavoidable changes of development and population growth as they place pressure on surfing amenities in the area.A Surf Management Plan would provide a framework to address increasing demands for surfing experiences with the limited capacity of the city's surfing resources through a partnership between surfing community and State and Local Government.

SURFERS could be charged a fee to hit the waves on the Gold Coast and be fined for breaking rules under a new city council "surf management plan".

The radical measures have been floated to solve chronic overcrowding and surf rage at popular breaks such as Snapper Rocks. Surfers have been assaulted and deliberately speared by boards as tensions rise at crowded point breaks. At Currumbin Alley, one surfer has died and others have been seriously injured after being run over by boats which share the break with boardriders.Surfers, including 11-time world champion Kelly Slater, have expressed fears about the overcrowding. The Gold Coast City Council has now called surfing groups together to draw up a surf management plan to try to control the mayhem. The plan aims to "prioritise actions to improve surf etiquette" and suggestions have included fees to surf crowded breaks and fines for surf rage.

Gold Coast surf reporter and former champion surfer Andrew McKinnon said some surfers feared regulation could take the "fun and freedom" out of the sport but something had to be done to address overcrowding. He said one idea was to introduce a "beginner to experienced" ranking system for breaks similar to ski fields but surfers would draw a line in the sand at having to pay to surf the best breaks."I think the council lifeguards should be given more power when it comes to surf rage incidents,'' Mr McKinnon said."We don't want to lose the fun factor but there has to be peace and harmony in the water."Other suggestions to be considered by surfing industry representatives include the creation of artificial reefs to take the pressure off existing breaks. The surf management plan could also see the Coast's best breaks declared surfing reserves to protect them from development.Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said he opposed a surf tax."Breaks are public assets that belong to everyone," he said. "People should leave their wallets on the beach and not have to take them into the water."

I love my leaf blower. when i am outside making my driveway beautiful my new neighbour often walks by and talks to me.

The fact that she is an absolute Goddess is the main reason I have a leaf blower, because it gives me areason to be outside waiting for her to walk past and talk to me.

Well, it happened in NSW between 1962 and 1968. All the local councils required a board to be registered for a small fee and carry a registration sticker. You couldn't surf outside your council area without getting a sticker for that area. This was brought about by loose boards smashing into people when the riders let them go, and among other things, dickheadds behaving like they owned the surf smacking other people in the head with fists or boards. The registration stickers gave the victims something to recognise their assailant with. It was also heavily policed by Rangers and Surf Club officials employed by councils.

I've only surfed Snapper a couple of times with you blokes, (Mac, Lacey and Vanders) and whilst the waves weren't bad, if there was a crowd about you were lucky to get one or two in an hour. Coupled with the fact that most people have their own interpretation on who's wave is who's and what a drop-in or a snake actually consists of. There's a great sign post in North Steyne, which I try to adhere to (unless I'm surfing with OB ). It's much the same as any other surf code sign you see around the Gold Coast. Trouble is, no one reads the feckin' things and the new wave of self entitled surf coaches who earn big bucks teaching, don't really instill any kind of code or etiquette into the new wave of self entitled newbie students either.

I've even been in the surf and listened to a 35 something year old self entitled new dad tell his 8 year old new surfing son to "don't worry about dropping in on those old blokes out the back, you deserve a couple of waves." Sure he does, but how is he going to feel if one of us "old blokes out the back" accidentally slams the kid with a 10' Diverse in the back of the head. He's the one who's going to get the ****ts with us, but he's the one who told his kid to paddle into a wave that was already being ridden. Still our fault though. 'Cos these kids have been brought up to be "special". There are so many "specially gifted" kids in the world now that "special" is the new mediocre.

Do I want to pay to go surfing? Hell no, but if it helps get rid of some of the tossers who believe it's their god given right to help themselves to anything they want, then I'd consider it. You still have to get a permit for some areas in PNG, and in the Maldives and until recently, Cloudbreak.

In reality, no fine, punishment, fee for surfing permit or registration is ever going to replace the PARENT'S responsibility to teach their kids how to feckin' behave. Not just in the surf, but in school, in the cinema, on the road when they learn to drive and well..... just in life.

So Mac, don't say NEVER.....

Rant over......

Not really talking about "Back in the Day" just using that as an example, that it's already happened.

So, what's the answer for 2014? There are too many people in the surf at one time, most of them are OK with attitude, but those who have a bad attitude, and are vibe killers are ruining it for the rest of us. Violence has never been the answer, but is what seems to be the "go to" remedy for most people, such as the turd who speared his board at a guy up there recently, or the assfeckk who whacked another surfer with a paddle.

How do you get these tossers to respect one another in the surf? It's got me stuffed........

If they bring in pay to surf all it means is that Mr aggro will be paying for the privilege of being a fwit in the surf and probably be more entitled cause his surf is coming out of his back pocket
MR once a tosser always a tosser
couldnt beleive the clubbies set up the flags smack bang in the middle of the best lineup on the gold coast today in a decent swell with a foul southerly rip when there is 2 kilometres of untouched beach furthur north and also get rid of the frikkin surf schools as Snapper

Times change fellas - bet there was a time that you never thought you would wear a seatbelt or not drive home after 10 schooners - now hopefully you realise that its not the smartest thing to do. Lets hope that over time all surfers can work out a reasonable system that is fair and equitable and safe whilst still being enjoyable - I am pretty sure that is why we all love surfing - that enjoyment factor (although some apparently prefer the coffee ).
