I've scored myself a brand new GoPro Hero 5 as part of another purchase deal. I'm struggling to find a reason to take it out of the box and start using it, I'm leaning towards just selling it unless I can find a compelling reason to keep it.

Open to ideas and opinions as to the value (use) of them?

PM me if you want to sell for 'mates rates' Vanders.

I have a 4 Hero and would love to upgrade.

They're an action cam, small & versatile (heaps of accessories). Great for holidays without worrying about water & has a timelapse mode I'm looking forward to using. All depends on if you like taking video or not I guess.

.....I now need a longboard at mates rates

I've been using one this year, stills and time lapse photos mostly, little video.
Takes good images, variety of mounts and accessories exceptional, but build quality seems poor.
My first one lasted a couple of weeks before the back screen gave up.
Replaced under warranty no problems, but annoying.
In that time, or probably on the first day I used it, I had managed to scratch the back screen too. It's a touch screen that controls lots of things, I found I was randomly changing settings by accident. Bought a frame with a clear cover for the replacement camera.
Front screen on that camera is now intermittently faulty, waiting for it to give up entirely before another warranty swap.
In action cameras, I don't think there is any competition, if that's your bag.
You could use it as your only camera, but it is tiny especially in the hands of clumsy fat fingered people like me.
New modes I think on the 5 are time lapse, which I have found excellent, and linear field of view that removes most of the stupid fish eye distortion.
Needs to be in a frame to avoid losing it.
I only ended up with one because I couldn't find a waterproof video camera of any other sort that would shoot more than 27 minutes and 33 seconds of video. I will persist, and probably try some video stuff, but I'm still at a bit of a loss as to what to do with the videos.
