Had a good mid week surf at a beachie yeaterday, totally spent at work today. Was about as big as the beach can handle. Some lumpy ones coming through but beautiful clean face to work with.

I put the side fins in after goig single for a while... I really have to concentrate more on how the board willl react with the side fins in. I love the side fins in fast long waves cos you can drive off the bottom and carry speed up the face etc, hate the side fins in smaller, shorter waves. Fell off so many times yesterday, in particular on the backhand cos I wanted to pivot the board into place to trim and it just stays on it's line without the rider

Next time I will leave my bag on the beach and change as I feel necessary. All a good learning experience though. I do prefer the single fin as generally it develops the traditional side of my surfing which I really enjoy.

Hey Souwester, gee rub it in why dont you we have 1/2 foot choppy dribble to look forward to this weekend, dam I hate Fridays when you know that any chance of a wave is out due to northerly winds and lack of swell.

and I bet my two teams lose on the weekend

Just sharing the stoke boys, you get long R/H point breaks that are mal friendly, I wish we had more like that ha ha

I like our beachies but they have there limits too. Have not had the time to head south yet will one day then I will rub it in

Shunter can you share some details about the outrigger?
I'm interested cause I want to build one with an optional sail.
I think there really cool how you can paddle, fish, catch waves, sail back home.
Thanks mate.

Hi XXL,

Its a Gary Dieking designed ulua outrigger strip plank with epoxy glass over construction. It paddles alright but is designed as a surf/sailing canoe so has too much rocker to be a good paddler. You can find out more info and order plans from here.

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/garyd/

Easy to build and good fun, if I build another one it will be the 24" Wa'apa, quick easy plank construction and should be able to carry all the kids and dog ok..

Cheers
