well I just had a quick look back at who has won it since its inception in 1971 and Labour political figures have always enjoyed favourable treatment it would seem, Bob Hawke, Gough, Nevile Wran, Hawke government tourism minister John Brown (the year Paul Hogan won it) and Kevin Rudd. On the other side Joh Bjelke-Petersen (how on earth did he win???) and John Howard.
Some interesting choices looking back on the list - I am sure they made perfect sense at the time though
