A good research topic for a doctorate / medical student / fisheries/enviro student would be;
A study of where people are most commonly bitten by sharks, what location causes the biggest probability of death (probably stomach area and size of shark!), where seals are most commonly bitten, and how seals survive/escape...
I would also like the CSIRO or similar to get involved with some of these so called shark deterrent devices. See some genuine testing results.
Imagine being a diver with a knife strapped to your thigh, as a potential defensive mechanism, only to have a best of a shark bite you on that thigh with the knife, and the knife disappears!

The footage of those WA boys fending off a GWS with their spears was pretty amazing.
