Ah well, did the drive to Snapper for the hoax swell on new years day ( sthn goldie only), and started questioning myself after 10 minutes in the water ( jelly fish and all ) Anyone that was here would no what i am talking about. The young fella was catching a few, i got a couple of stragglers on my 9 fter.
Saw rabbitt paddle out around 9 am catch a wave and go in,Then an older gent paddled out on his mal and ty down hat, and he terriorizes the pack, first wave takes off straight on a close out and takes out 3 punters. The looks on the faces of the victims was priceless. Was it a breezer ?
Anyway got a couple of goodies and was surprised at the mild attitude in the water.

Coulda been me but I was in Tassie at the time .

But I will admit to wearing a hat in the surf these days . Necessary requirement due to my ever enlarging solar panel and the extra heat in the sun these days with the hole in the ozone layer .
Good for embarrassing the kids as well and making them keep clear of me

someone is imitating my style :( . I was 1000 km away. Sneaky fraud.

Btw, taking off on a closeout is my thing, but no victims yet.

Could have been me, but I was in Sydney suffering no surf syndrome.....

+1 on the hat...... I've had too many bits of small melanomas burned or cut out of my head for me to be vain about it, but at least I can it ll get out there, unlike a few blokes I know who are now so scarred from the sun, they can't surf at at all.

Gotta love Snapper.
Up there a couple of years ago, with the family and the young bloke wants to surf Snapper. Surf was average, on shore chest to head high, still crowded, but he's bustin to get out there, so out we go. Peaking behind the rocks, I sit bit wider on a short board, while he paddles over to the inside. Waiting to pick up a ride and No1 Nutter paddles out on a mid length (no good for anything), paddles inside everyone, takes off and lays down until he gets past the rocks and then stands up. Almost grazes the rocks as he goes by. My young bloke picks off a few, I got a dribbler, but No 1 Nutter is paddling / snaking everytime he gets back out there.
Now, where we live on the Central Coast of NSW, there are 4 caravan parks within walking distance of our place, so at holiday time you get used to kamakaze surfing and mad beginners. My young bloke paddled past me, going back out, with a big smile on his face, gave me a wink and says, "next ones yours". Now at the time he was 18, about 6'2", very fit and used to crowds. He paddled past No1 Nutter and sat inside of him. As soon as he sat up, No1 Nutter laid down and paddled around him and further out. A set came through, they both paddled for it and my bloke kept going to the last second to force No 1 nutter to go, which he did. I had postioned myself just off the rocks, started paddling as the Nutter came flying accross on his stomach and as I took off all I heard was the sound of fibreglass and rocks colliding. I was laughing so much I almost fell off. Big smile on my face for the whole wave. We caught a few more, then left. My bloke said he got launched by the backwash and ended up on top of the rocks. He had no chance of getting past the rocks, but still went.
Now I know why I surf away from crowds all the time. Surfing is becoming a contact sport. Pretty soon we will have referees on the beach.

I've heard that about you Shelly Beach types

I am not sure how you even stomach a surf up there - its a nightmare - I am surprised there are not more injuries.

I was surfing a WA break once and there were a few that just had to have the inside position.

So I decided to see how far someone would take it.

Started paddling south and this guy just kept on coming. Ended up at least 50m past the takeoff spot back in deep water where no waves even break.

Laughed at the guy and told him he was a d--- and paddled back to normal spot.

I do like the tag team method of a mate paddling deap and all the sheep following and hassling for inside position leaving me at the takeoff spot to pick off a wave then swapping roles.

It was one of those 'to do' things. Might be the last holiday with our two groms, so wanted to do it all, including Snapper. Didn't help that it was onshore the whole week we were there.
I sure that there are a fair few crashes up there, just don't hear about them.
