A few pics from the last few days. Dam cold down this way but well worth the effort. Thats me getting out of the water in my newly purchased and much needed head gear! Sadly I was unable to bring one of my own boards down so had to rent one - which was far from ideal. Both Tux and Simondo offered me a stick of theirs but hooking up with either of them did not work out sadly. Hopefully next time as I will be back. Water is very very cold. Felt like I was back in NZ whilst at times the crowds reminded me of the Goldie (see below) The folks down this way are so friendly - especially out of the water in all the shops, food places etc a very pleasant place to visit. I love Victoria I have decided!!

Would a heated suit make life good? Or should we just dream at what we can surf if we were tough?

Not sure about that cold water though.

The water is very cold - not sure how they do it down there or how TD survives even further south - I felt like a space cadet and with all that rubber on....having my ears covered up certainly affected my balance. It felt weird trying to duckdive with all that rubber on - mind you the board did not help ! Its weird having the old thick booties on....feels like you are 2 inches off the deck.....but no complaints, after a few waves its starting to feel normal and after that you stop thinking about it and start worrying about whether the bloke who is charging down the line will make the section or not so you can swing round and take it. It did not feel that heavy to me - I copped a few of the bigger sets on the head and pushed threw them nice and easily (compared to some of the reefs at home) despite being in less than ideal position. I think if you have the right equipment - a 4/3 glued n stitched flexi wettie you would not even know it. Get the right booties and you would be away....the hoodie would be a nice accessory once you you get used to the weird feeling of having your ears covered (weird)....but those waves are more than worth it - we should just be grateful that there is some rubber that we can wear so we can get out there and sample the goodness There were people cruising the carpark in thongs at 6am after all.

you are right about the hoodies , hate them . getting used to wearing booties I think its a bit like running in bare feet then trying to run in shoes - just takes time

water has been not to bad here last few weeks , packed away the gloves and vests for the year about 4 weeks ago .

Bad news is the water hasn't even been that cold this year Ted....hopefully when you come back we can put on the full winter show for you...Grey and overcast, woodesmoke in the air, 12 degree water, howling nor wester, single digit air temps and ruler edged eight foot lines pouring into Winki and surrounds....

yes it was - a GSI one that weighed a tonne! It was a real pig - felt like it was full of water and it probably was....it was the best thing I could find after trying several places. The soft top foam boards did not seem suitable I almost had my hands on my dream board - a Maurice Cole Protow with the full length concave but it was a size to small.....on reflection I would have been better off on that. I would love one of his boards. It was interesting to note that lots of the boards down that way are made to last with much stronger / heavier glass jobs.

yep thats the one....there was another shop just down the road that also had similar equipment. It seemed like I was getting the last of the reasonable boards sadly......next time I am raiding your shed

talking of cold lands winter has made a return here , just been outside and its not too far off snowing

MickPC - I love your town. I finally stayed in it on Friday night - was a blast. Stayed in a dodgy hotel on the main drag and had a yum dinner and session on the beers watching two games of football at the same time at the Apollo Bay Hotel. Great evening. Its a place I liked a lot the last time I went through that way and always wanted to return. I am glad I did. I would love to live in a place like that but maybe its just too cold
