Well got back a few days ago after a awesome trip, thought id share my story might help someone heading over looking to hire. Before I left I Did a fair bit of looking on the net trying to understand whether I could hire a quality LB in Kuta and head west in search of waves. I Was going to use surfboard rental though when I read in fine print " the board you see might not be the board you get " I elected to wing it and hit the streets upon arrival, magically hire the perfect board for me and be on my merry way I was chasing a mid nine foot board to hire.
Well this was to be a mission, walked Kuta/legian area including beach for 3 hours in the middle of the day for no cigar, was limping back to the Adi Dharma with my tail between my legs and walked into the 25 th surf shop and asked the question, old mate at RPM surf ripped home and grabbed his HP LB and said I could have it for 60 AUS for 6 days. Done with cover and no details handed over. Bit short at 9 1 and 2 1/8 but it went alright.
In short Quality longboards IMO are hard to find in Kuta. unless of course you know someone I guess.
On my arrival back in Kuta on departure day I did manage to find a near perfect Luke Studer noserider 9 4 on the beach at legian. paid 50 000 for all day if I wanted it. Could not believe he let me take it with the conditions on offer.
In BAlian there a couple of places that hire shortys and midlengths but the only place I found that hired an ordinary LB was Wayan on the beach at BAlian beach café. Awesome food though.
In Medewi I saw three hire shops next to each other a stones throw from the beach, that day they all had a couple of quality LB's for hire, they were approx. 60 000 to 80 000 for a session. They also had booties for hire at 20 000. Pretty cheap.
Hope this helps anyone heading over needing to hire.

If I had of known these were on offer I would have skipped the mission at kuta .

Local rules, ummm.

Thanks for sharing the information,a good LB is very hard to hire as you found out,I've been sucking it up and riding foamies for a while now,I did leave a board there a few years ago but found out it was not being stored but used when I returned home

I asked the villas where we have been saying the last couple of years but sadly they don't have any storage for a 9+ board.
Glad you had an awesome trip.

100k Rp a day is pretty good for a LB...Blacky has a Mctavish for rent out front of Ramada Bintang (Tuban) which is 100k a session.

I remember Slim advertising board storage on his baliwaves.com site a couple of years ago. He could probably still arrange it. Would be great to have a banger over there for the small days

I was over there a few years back before my back injury and I got down the beach and all this guy had was a Robert August tuff lite with a wobbly fin . Took it out and had a go but it was bad so the guy told me he'd get something better . Next day he had this mal that was made somewhere in WA and it was really sleek looking with a pulled in nose and it was really good. Can't remember the brand but it was made for good waves. I rode the thing most days just out the front at Legian on a nice bank. Balos are pretty helpful .

Apparently there's some good Longboards available for hire up act Chengu.? Haven't seen them for myself . There's two beach based dudes just north of Padma Bank that have a couple of decent 9' + from what I saw, but that was it.
