Paddled out this morning with my new board in near perfect condition, paddled out with it dented, chipped and cracked. Halfway through the surf I was running my hands along the rail waiting for a wave when I came across a sharp scratch. Upon turning over the board I noticed a chip in the glass on the rail and a crack across half the board but only glass deep. When the sun caught the bottom of the board I noticed a pressure fold/crease right across the board from rail to rail? Devastated!

I have only been surfing small beachies and not on any reef so not sure what caused such a crease, will get a second opinion from the local L/Board shop tomorrow. To add insult to injury my S/Boarder mate dropped in on me as a part of a bit of banter (allegedly paying me back) and our boards collided and the bottom now had another crack on the rail near the nose and a massive dent from his rail next to the stringer from the nose and down the board for about 500mm.

Anyone got any advice on how to get it fixed, I know I cant do much about the pressure ding, I will get the rail fixed in the shop but I have heard that a fold in a board is terminal. Can someone tell me it isnt so

bet your a little devoed right now... if the crease goes right through the board from rail to rail then you can get it repaired will add abit of weight but should be fine, if it has cracked and twisted then that is a different thing all together. any good repairer will fill you in on the g-o. i have had boards snapped in two and put them back together and they have gone better then what they went before they were snapped. only prob is it creates a weak point at either side of where the crease repair ends. toby at oceanstyle in north freo is a good person to quiz as is ross at longboards scabs.

Take it straight back to point of purchase and plead your case. The distributor may take pity on you and replace it!

I folded a brand new Southpoint back in about May and got a replacement a couple of days later. Worth a try...

Cheers for the advice guys. Will go and see Ross at Scabs L/Boards as it's where I bought it from. I have since found out that apparently it is not such a big deal if the fibre glass has not cracked all the way along the crease?

It has a small crack on the rail where the crease starts and the glass has cracked along it about 100mm then the rest is just a big kind of pressure ding right the way across to the other rail. I will ask the question in regards to a replacement, not holding high hopes though .

It may be hard to explain that the other damage was from a seperate incident but I can only be honest and see where I get? Not full bottle on what constitutes a warranty claim? Only had it a couple of weeks and love the thing to death though. If I dont get a new one it may force me to go to epoxy.

I've had 2 go over the years, a Rabbige and a Latter, that's a lot considering how infrequently I surf, it's devastating if you really like the board.

That's a reason why I went epoxy and why I'll stick with them but then I wouldn't know a good board if it sat on my face, you sound like you know what you're doing on a board.

Do you reckon an epoxy will give you the thrills you need?

Disaster all right, sorry to hear about your board champ

You mentioned beach break , If I was a punter I would
lay bets the board hit the sand ( its like concrete )
As airhead said take it back to point of purchase, but
I don't like your chances.

Southpoint did have a manufacturing issue sometime ago and
replaced creased or snapped boards.

good luck buddy mac

Had a chat with Ross @ Scarb. L/Boards and it seems like the dents are not structural (just annoying) and the cracks are getting fixed this week so will be back out there later this week.

I'm still giving my mate a hard time for the drop in though ha ha s**t hppens I guess. As long as the board rides the same it doesnt really matter

Just gotta take a little more care with it. I hear Southpoint's Bonga boards are pretty performance based obct I watched a clip on the net about how they were made and it is amazing the technology they have with epoxy boards now. My first board was a 7'2 NSP that served its purpose but fell behind when it counted.

I had a major rail to rail crease on top my new SUP. Ross repaired this and there is no weight difference and he bulked the deck up so stronger than new. Its in good hands

Yeah he didn't seem to concerned with the rail to rail ding so if he wasnt worried I wont worry, just looks ugly

Was just stressing cos I love surfing on the board, enjoying my surfing more than ever. Nice to know it will be all good
