Hey fellas I've been offered a Fanatic 9' board at an awesome price. I have tried it and as a learner it is one of the easier boards I have tried.
It is conventional glass construction

Is anyone familiar with them? Being the same brand as a windsurf board (euro company) that are made in Cobra factory in Thailand I wonder if it may be a pretty ordinary glass job.....

Then again a benefit may be that being a euro brand it may be designed for onshore slop ....

Any thoughts appreciated

Some pop-outs can be thin mate , no matter what brand it is , glass quality can be dubious but if it's the learner board & a good score $$$-wise , it may not matter that much .... you might get some scuffs & dings along the way so as long as it's not taking on water just go for it - besides you are the handy type from looking at the windy room repair section over the months mark so that part is covered a bit , what fins she running?

It seems to not be moulded crap, looks like the conventional top hot coat over glass (I think). Moulded normally looks different

Has a finbox with about a 8 or 9" glass fin and FCS boxes for the sidies - but none of the fins have a brand on them

Hi,fanatic are a windsurfer/666 brand,I wouldn't rate as a prone longboard never heard of them making a true surfboard my 2 cents worth.

fanatic have a very good reputation. i wouldn't write it off. they do a lot of r&d

Just out of interest, why is moulded crap?

There are a lot of far superior technologies in composite construction that become available once you use a mould. Sandwich, thermoforming, Infusion etc.

I love custom craftsmanship but the reality is if durability and full usage of modern materials is to be used there's no better option. In my humble opinion the Australian industries resistance to use technology will be its downfall.

My Brewer Tufflite 9'6 is a brilliant board. Had heaps of use, and it still look like brand new. Goes unreal.

I heard that Bob McTavish was using a Tufflite McT Original for quite a while.

Yeah, I agree the new tech is good, The Joel Tudor LB by surftech is a nice looking log, had a good look at one the other day.

Why do you think people stick with glass construction, do epoxy etc feel that much different? Is it a price thing?

For me I like my LB heavyish and they just seem to light but never really ridden one enough to compare. But I was getting out paddled by an old dude on one the other day and it made me think do the lighter epoxy boards catch wave easier, surf was small and fat and I could out paddle him on the way out but he was catching waves heaps easier and I reckon it was cause the light epoxy board. Thoughts ?

As a sailboarder Mark would know that.

The new constructions are marvellous but the construction needs to be consistent.

I would love to know exactly how many duds get pumped out.
