Interesting debate. I guess the first casuality in the short run will be that Pasta Pt losses a few customers or / and have to reduce their prices - people staying there love to mix it up at those other spots. The boats will also lose out......plus a few others. In the long run the resorts should win though.
Maybe it's time to think outside the box and those people all join forces and outbid Telos. Split between them it would cost stuff all as Chrispy rightly pointed out. The loss of employment would be low - and would more than be matched by reduced numbers across the other competing boats and resorts if this new development went away.
I had a look at the details and this really annoyed me.
"The only development for Thanburudhoo which is sensible is that of a boutique surf resort. The islands only strength is its surfing waves and thus the smartest resort plan would be to cater to these particular water sports enthusiasts."
They also mentioned that surfers most prefer Eco-resorts. By definition these exist because you have to supply yr own power

there are no main line wires to help u out. You have to live green as u want to minimize yr rubbish and be efficient with yr food etc as it's a business and it costs u less in the long run in these places. From my experience surfing around the globe the majority of surfers I have come across have been price conscious and after a goodtime, good waves, a good feed and cold beers. If lucky some lady company. Yes some like the nice stuff and are prepared to pay for it but certainly not the vast majority from what I have seen.
In New Zealand when I was growing up there were lots of exclusive waves - ownership was determined by yr size, how good a punch you could throw and where u were from!!!! There are still some spots like that not far from where TB lives.....
