Almost lost my middle finger yesterday. I pulled off a wave just before the shore dump but as I rolled off the top of the wave and bailed out my board got sucked over the falls. So as I was going under I reached out and grabed my legrope just to pull the board back but something bad happened. There must have been a loop in the leg rope so as the board got caught in the shore break my finger got caught in a random loop in the rope. Near ripped my finger clean off. I thought it was gone.
Just dislocated at middle joint and some insane swelling.
I wonder if this has happeded to anyone else. I know I have had my wrist caught before but nothing as savage as this.
I guess I wont be reaching for my leggy while the board is in the white water again.

Never heard of anyone losing a finger other than Sup riders,,but it hurts like hell.
I had a leggie loop the other foot in a wipeout in Solid 6 ft tombstoning me.
i was waiting for my foot to come off, **** it hurt,I'll never forget that.

+ I will never touch that rail saver,,those little loops have taken many a finger.

Yep almost did it by accident on the foamy of all things.

Glad it was more of a reminder not to do it.

I have had the same thing happen as Cobra before and that tripped me out

I do it all the time hold it about a foot from the railsaver and duck under waves.

Might rethink that strategy.

Never grab it when falling though.

I often hold the rail saver ..which is on a short doubled cord... as close to the plug as possible... never had a problem ...& the glass on the tail has no fractures...the shore break here on the Goldy can be vicious at times & I try and ride through the gutter on to it to lengthen a ride as most of the time rides are short & fast ...usually jump off the back of the board & never hold the leggie.

Yep. What he said... This pic is Brenno in the SUP room (he has great taste in longboard-style sups too)....

Wow. I should not make fun of this anymore. That's a terrible result. Hope he is able to carry on with his normal day to day existence. I knew a few of the 666 brigade had hurt themselves but not to that extent. Ouch.
