Mid 40's my best lost my way,due to poor board selection on my part going too small.
Got the quiver of quivers and growing.

Better in most aspects but less aggressive and more hesitant on the bigger days - I used to enjoy getting a good flogging but not anymore so are always more cautious which leads to opportunities whilst in the lineup passing me by. I have found that with new board options - short wide fat things - that my performance in smaller days and when its gutless has seen the biggest gains.

Haha
Well in some ways I am and other ways I am not.
Pros

Cons
Not as flexible anymore
More cautious
Reflexes were way bbetter

Some days I think I shred lol
Other days like this week I could not buy a decent wave. I blew every single one. The older I get the more : enjoy surfing and am even more thankful to be able to still do it

At Winki Lowers, on the less crowded days, we call each other in, and share it around.

Down here, there are days when you get some big rougue ones coming through... 20-30 minute King Sets... My tactic... You see them coming through Centre Side & Bells, and there is a 50%+ chance that they will be hitting Winki too... So you scratch out to the horizon and hope... It's a small roll of the dice, but well worth rolling...

Yep. (and yes to the growing quiver also!)

Mac, what boards/size were you on in your mid 40's?

Probably guilty of all of the above, I keep calling mac onto waves with me but I don't think he has faith in my abilities, probably justified.

It's been about 13 years since I was in my surfing prime - had a 10 year hiatus after moving from San Diego to Colorado to Cairns.

Now I'm challenged by shoulder bursitis and about 5-7 extra kilos

But longboarding and my EVOII have rejuvinated me and I'm no longer focussed (for the moment anyway) on trying to get back to my previous abilities.

Have faith though that one of these days, I'll be back on a 6'7" rounded pin thruster throwing massive carving sprays off an 8 footer - maybe on a SDR - CW? That'd be makings of a hell of a quiver

T-dog bursitis is eeasy to sort.
Today we had the most perfect and mirror glass 2ft plus waves and I surfed like taj
I'm with tux a bit regarding boards etc,but everything else is farked
eg was being taught some new core exercises from my physio(Pilates) the next two days it hurt to move, but we have had super fun Surf, so I went determined. Well after so many hours surfing with this pain I have no skin left on my left knee. On popping up bbecause my core was so weak I was dragging my knee, hence blowing so many waves. So age and injury does suck, and.does effect how well you Surf.
I wish I started this Pilates gig earlier as I think I would be
Near indestructible.
Swell pulse tonight and tomorrow will be sick as bro

Re knee draging.

I had a back op in early 07 burst the lowest disk through the spine and onto the ciatic nerve. Very painfull and walking was almost impossible.

Before the injury my pop up was very good, but now I tend to drag my left big toe and sometimes knee. The surgon said that the left side of my pelvis
will always be lower than the right and I can see it.

The best exercise I have found for the lower back/core is walking up and down in a pool (beach would be good to) forwards backwards and sideways.
Rockclimbing isnt bad either as it focusus on almost the same core mucles and also balance.

Same with back damage wa41 but I had it pretty sorted. Started this Pilates gig for other injuries, but thought I would get my monies worth with some back specific exercises. Was popping up unreal today. I know about the toe drag thing though,I tend to do it now more near the end of a session when I'm tired

i always feel i'm better when i go to lm some saturday mornings.

seriously tho, when i did some stuff with mark richardson. became a lot more constant with my surfing because i understood it better.

i could have my days before then but was a bit hit and miss - one day real good , next ordinary which used to be a bit frustrating.
