Its never occurred to me to do it, so when I have noticed two guys drying off their boards before putting them into their board covers, I initially thought that a bit strange.

I just slide my board straight into the board bag before it can get covered in sand, grass or other unmentionables. I reason it is going to get wet with the next use.

Is there any reason to dry the board before storing it besides appearances with dried salt on the board, what do you do?

with my new home made covers that have a soft fabric lining I dry them - not thoroughly though. With my other covers never.

1) A quick rinse with fresh water if there is a shower handy.
2) a quick dry with a towel before back in the bag.
3) Open bag to air when I get home.

If you love your board, it will love you back

i dont wash it or dry it but do hate the wax when it can stick to the bag if it got warm...

my wife decided not to put her board in its bag last week because of the wax sticking ... stone hit it on the highway... massive ding :(

she will use the bag now

No, I don't dry it, maybe I should, but I'm always in too much of a hurry.

They will get a bit smelly if you put them away wet.

Come to think of it, so will your board [}:)]

A quick rinse with fresh water
I dry it with my shammy before going back in the bag.
Open bag to air when I get home.

I agree with Daneli:

If you love your board, it will love you back

i never dry them but i always wash them down, but that goes for everything that touches saltwater my car, boat, fishing gear , hell i have stuffed some fishing gear from not washing them down. i don't think it affects the boards but i think it does with the screws in fins and swivels of leggy.

I fabricated a new home made surfboard cover inspired by you Ted, but made it out of waterproof shade cloth. Carries a 9' LB and a cheap 8' foamie in the one bag. Works well but it's not pretty, hence no pics so far.

Thanks for the inspiration Ted!!!

And I don't dry my surfboards, but always wash them at the beach thoroughly. I see others take them straight from the seawater into the bag. I am protecting my car from salt more than anything else.

haha there is a guy at the pass who is a nutter about keeping his board in A1 condition,

after every surf he rinses the board for like 10 mins in the shower. Then wipes it down till it is bone dry. Then removes the fin and cleans it with Mr Sheen and places the fin into a silk sock specially made for his fin. He the removes his leg rope. Then windex's his whole board top to bottom, then places the board into a sock, then into a 10mm travel bag.

He has the best wax job i have ever seen, his wax pimples are like the size of 50 cent pieces and about 5 mm high. He only waxes his board in a certain temperature with wax that is at an exact temperature as well :) INSANE

but back to the real world, the only thing i do is make sure i rinse my board. good mate of mine who has surfed for 40 yrs and has board from the 60's always says that if u dont rinse ur board u will end up with little corrosive pimples in the glass work of your board that can eventually created little holes that water can get into
