Just wondering if many have used deck grip on their boards, and if so, opinions.
I've seen one brand "Versa Traction", it's a clear adhesive that eliminates the need for wax.
I've always just used wax, never had a need to use anything else. But I recently treated myself to a new McTav Fireball, and I'm getting the ****s with trying to pull the board from the bag, only to find the melted wax has glued the two together. The wax melts on the journey back up the highway from the Goldie to Brisbane.

I guess a clear grip would look neat and tidy, although I would never change on cosmetics alone. However, now that the melting wax is ****ting me off, I might have to give it a try.

P.S. Took the new board out for the first time last Sunday morning down at the Alley. wasn't ideal conditions, but had a ball and love the new board. I probably looked like a gimp paddling onto everything with a grin from ear to ear

Mate, just get some Robbie page Cream wax. It doesn't melt.

Place the board wax side down, always... On roof racks, or inside the car... Wax won't melt while you drive home, A/C on, etc...

Even at 40 degrees, wax side down on roof racks... was won't "melt"... It only gets slightly softer...

Ocean & Earth air con board bag will help,please don't do the deck grip.

It's a bit like the old wine bottles with corks . How many people have pulled a friggin cork ork out lately .



Just get the deck grip to smell like coconut and you will be rolling in it . Money I mean not coconut .

Never have probs with wax on boards these days. I use summer wax in summer & summer base coat & winter top for winter. Certainly no aficionado on deck grip on longboards, I'm still on my first. Always had them on shortboards, but often ripped them off boards that I've kept longer than usual (18 months +)...Personally I would never put one on a longboard over 9 foot, coz I know I'm going to be walking all over that board & the sweet spots are not as touchy as a shortboard, negating a lot of the advantage of having deck grip imo

I used to use grips on my short boards back in the 90's but have only used wax for years now on my longboards, but the clear stuff might work OK.

Try Stomp, used the warm water one all year and find it great and doesn't soften too much,but like all I've tried it leaves itself on your wettie a bit.

I wouldn't put a board in a car between Oct-May as it gets too hot and can shrink the foam and stuff your stick.

Try this..put a thermometer in an empty board bag and leave it in the sun for 10 mins..do the same with a towelling sock..and check the diff in the internal temps..I've found the silver bag in sun gets much hotter

Can't recommend deck grip or any traction type product, as I surfed a mal, only once, that had a texture deck and it ripped the crap out of my stomach when paddling and the inside of my legs when sitting. i would suspect that a grip deck would be similar, so if your not going to wear a full steamer every surf, forget it. I also think they make a board look crap. Just my opinion of course.

A couple of longboarders around here use that versa track and really like it.
I'm pretty sure Cuttlefish on here rates pretty highly.

I totally agree with sandsy. I use to have this tail kicker that would make a farkn big hole in my leg. They are fine if you need to have a seal suit

i know mac is a big fan of tail pads on lb's - likes um that much he tells other not too. it gives he an advantage he reckons. why just last week he reckon he 's going to stick one on this board nose because he spends so much time nose riding up there- might as well have a pad there too

but on a longboard who knows

Toughen up buttercup

Yes a tail pad can be annoying the first few times you use it but soon your knee gets used to it. I find them extremely useful in being able to feel exactly where your back foot is - vital on a short board. I loved the ones with a raised arch and a kicker

Tail block is good, locks your foot in on those steeper backhand bottom turns and also good for jamming the toes against for forehand cutties.

But not on a log, HP or all rounder I kinda like them.
