Hi,

I'm thinking of replacing my recently departed Frank Latta shaped/Skipp 8'6" (was such as good board).

Surfing 95% beachies under head high - am thinking something around the 8ft mark, but would like something a little more 'high performance' (like the Skipp was, sniff, sniff...).

Has anyone had experience with the Mctavish midlengths? Seems to be a few Carvers available secondhand, but reading between the lines on the website descriptions it seems they are they a bit more of a mini-mal compared to the Vuelo?

Happy for any feedback on these, cheers.

Hey damo,
I know you're looking at 2nd hand but If you really want the low down on each board try giving Dave English a call at McT. I've spoken to him a few times, he's a good guy and I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction.

I'm glad Lacey likes his Bob Sled!... I have Bob Sled Step-Up, the 7'10 Dream Machine Quad, and it goes like a dream in good waves...

Damo,
The Carver is like an overside Short Board.
The Midlegth version of The Vuelo, or The Fireball EvoII is more like a High Performance Longboard...

It depends on what waves you surf the most, and what the conditions are like at your local... You would have more fun over Summer on the Vuelo or EvoII...

What weight are you?...

Sounds like you need a 9'+ Longboard, plus a Midlength... !!

Depends what size you are going, your weight and where you surf. The carver and Vuelo are pretty different boards.

If you are getting near 9 ft i would go the Vuelo, it is a HP longboard and probably suited to that length more then a carver.

I had a 7'6 carver years ago, great all rounder can surf them in about anything....

If you are going that length ( 7-8 ft ) i would go the BSQ as raved about by Lacey or i currently have a sumo that i like as an all rounder at the moment. plenty of volume great fun but found out recently that it's not so good when it gets over head high and sucky, especially backhand, tail seems to hang in the lip a bit but mine is reasonably chunky for my weight which might be part of the problem.

As other have said, give them a call or find a local shaper to run some ideas past.

The selling of the wombat was a mistake. Missed out by one day getting it back.

Subx goooooone!

It was actually a genuine question, just wondering how they all mix in and what board suits what conditions??

Oh Vanders Vanders Vanders!

How long is a piece of string?

Multiple boards suit similar conditions but they all feel different and draw different lines.

Let quivers proliferate in an orgy of board porndom I say. Release your inner board whore and accept five solutions to the same problem.

Besides you then have spares to lend or if one gets dinged.

Lacey, you need another one.
