No more road trip promised, next time we will have a trip report thread, for better or for worse.

This is a factual account with some holes in it - I shall leave all the humour & stories for obct. Sorry for the lack of decent photos but the GF had the good camera.

It was a long drive north on the Thurs - it pissed down and I was feeling a bit lonely as Prawnhead sms'd to tell me that he was bailing as it was too wet for his setup. I completely understood though. I finally setup tent and just as I finished putting the last peg in it bucketed down again. My luck was turning. I woke up in the morning at 5:30am and moved 5m from my tent to view the early morning conditions.....its was looking pretty good so it was on with the wettie and out there. It was really busy with only 3 of us out for the first hour or so.

It was a nice clean 2 to 3 ft and the sets continued to build through the morning and by lunchtime it was almost 4ft on the bigger ones.

obct and Lfish arrived just as I was finishing my bacon n egg sani washed down with a can of coke. They promptly took to the water and picked a few nice ones.

What was weird though was it felt like a Mactavish convention - it seemed like every second person had one. We decided to snap a few shots for Mac so he was not feeling left out - a fireball and a ufo hanging out together.

I joined them for another session then when I got in Sharpie had arrived after his morning session at Crescent. I had another late session in the day but the wind had got into and the incoming tide did not help so it was no where near as productive as the early sessions. But pretty happy with 2 great surfs and a reasonable one on day one. The good news was though that Sharpie had sorted out the fire and boys were happy as larry - a nice feed of chilli made by obct a few beers and some (as you would expect) classic obct stories that had us all in stitches. I was surprised that I did not wet my pants a few times from all the laughing. He is even more funny in person if possible. He also does about 20 different accents which makes his story telling and jokes even more funny. We all wondered what sort of evening we would have been in for if Chrispy had shown up and gone head to head with obct on the story front It was early to bed for the early session.

The morning dawned and as is typical in most camp sites around this nation most people had drunk themselves stupid so there were not many takers this morning. After spending ages decided what board to take out in the early morning light I took the new stick out for a run and was pleasantly surprised by the size. There was only 4 of us out for the majority of the session with some solid sets coming in. Lfish paddled out to join me just as another couple on longboards did and a 6ft set came through and washed them all in at once breaking a leggie in the process. The poor chick got hammered. Lfish had his board smash his toe which put him out of business as well. I then had it to myself for a while until my arms ran out of juice. Stoked. The new board went well although it feels very tight after the Sweet Potato but its goes great, has loads of speed but seems to lack some drive. I kept getting my feet too far forward as the 6'6" felt massive after surfing a 5'10". Sharpie headed out and ripped it up on his 666 - so I snapped a couple of him when I got in.

There was a bit of natural bird life hanging around the place all weekend. Some of them surfed pretty good to.

Lots of nice waves through the morning session but it was dropping a bit as the morning progressed and the tide went out. obct took off on a screamer over the bubble on his 10'6" and styled it for probably a km down the point. I thought he was going to run me over as he was taking off but he showed great composure to miss me by a few feet

A contented man after all his long rides......I think it was the new wax job he gave his trusty machine before paddling out

Lfish gave me some top tips on shaping a board and obct and sharpie chipped in as well. So maybe that might become my winter project. After looking over the Lfish boards its hard not to be inspired. He makes a nice board.

After all the board talk we thought we had better do some pimping to even up the Mactivish involvement and after noticing that there was some great bbq options floating around we could not resist - just for LL who had the audacity to question my bbq photos the other week - hope these are better LL. I even threw in a fishing table for good measure.

After my second surf and looking at the weather forecast I decided to head off and make my way home as I did not fancy putting all my wet gear away in the morning. I wonder how the others got on as it pissed down most of the way home.

I left with some pleasant thoughts as I was leaving of some good folk and great waves. A top trip. Thanks fellas. We shall be doing this again soon.

Okay boys and girls, I just got home, after Sharpie & Ted left, Lfish and I had a real close look at the radar and the forecast and decided that Plomer was not a good place to be if it turned nasty, so we both skedaddled.

And judging from all that BS that Ted wrote, it's a good job you are finally going to hear the truth.

Just kidding Ted, good report.

Now for the BS.

But first, the annual awards for being the biggest NOB of the weekend. This coveted title is judged on the basis a wide range of nobbish behaviour and this year there were 4 finalists, Lfish, Ted, Sharpie and yours truly;

From 5th to 1st place, our winner were:

NOB 5: Sharpie
He didn't actually do anything wrong, it's just that he rides a sup. Isn't that reason enough to be in the placings?

NOB 4: obct
For drinking too much on Friday night and then having to spend half of Saturday with a stink'n headache and not being able to do the thing he went up there to do, surf.

NOB 3: Ted
For spending way too much time with longboarders so that at the end of a really top ride, after shedding the bejeezus out of a good'n, he see's me sitting on the inside and starts to do a bit of styling with his hands behind his back and running up to the tip of his tiny board to hang a cheat'n'five. Needless to say, him and the board went down faster than Lynda Lovelace.

NOB 2: obct
Yes, a second award, but this time in sub category of “it seemed like a good idea at the time”. That wax job I was soooo proud of doing with the coffee flavoured stomp wax turned out to be a disaster. It's way way too sticky for a longboard and stops you from trimming as you paddle and makes it real hard to walk around on deck.

And the award for NOB 1 goes to (drum roll if you please mr music)

Lfish, for going out for his first ride and not being able to understand why his board was handling soooo bad until he got out of the water and saw that his neoprene fin cover had been on the fin the whole time he was out.

I'm a bit upset that Lfish won because I actually got 2 out of the 5 placing's so I should have been ahead on points.

Now for some picypoos

I didn't go in at Crescent, but I stopped there to pick up Lfish and although it was small, as usual, it was as pretty as all hell.

The road in isn't too bad, but there are a lot of potholes and you do need to take it easy. Coming out I reckon I got from PP to the highway at Kempsy in around 25 mins.

It's definitely a longish paddle if you don't use the jumprocks and the place is so much like Arra, it's spooky.

The outside section can be good fun on the set waves, especially for SBs over the sucky bit but much of the rest of the wave is more suited to LBs.

I had some outstandingly long rides, even when I stuck to the inside re-form.

I don't know who this is, it's just the only pic I have of the inside section.

Okay, see this dude on a LB dropping in? He was doing it all morning. We couldn't understand why until we took a close look at his board and discovered it was a MacT. And we all know that's reason enough.

Actually pup, I may have gone close to a very serious accident on the way home, when I say close, I estimate from 3 to 5 seconds.

It involved a box trailer comming off a car at 100 kliks. It happened about 2k north of the big bridge over the river at port Macquarie.

Nice work there obct.....I think you made a wise decision! After checking the beach here this morning i wish that I had been waking up to some long walls again but given the rain I am sort of glad I got out when I did.
