I am currently shopping for a new board bag for a few trips that are coming up. Has anyone used one of these? I like the concept.

Looks good Ted.Matt uses a O&E 3 board bag has enough room to fit each board with a cheap 3 mm bag for added protection,but a sh-tty bag handler will always find a way to damage boards

yeah I have had one of those before - great bags - but very heavy. I am going to be doing a few airport runs so want to make life nice and easy - and saving weight is a good option so I can pack more gear. I just like the idea of the 'wrap' - I am over zips !

I've been looking too. And I reckon you found the best one. for me the doesn't matter what width board is good.

I bought a single cover off them earlier in the year and the quality is good. Been eyeing off a double since.

Looks like you would need the extra bubble wrap with that one, but the design is good. My double board bag gets bloody tight zipping up around the middle.

Reasonably prices for the smaller lengths, bloody good value for the longer.

As long as the total weight of your luggage is under 32kg (Jetstar) then it's ok. They won't take anything heavier, whether you pay extra or not, due to OH&S.

Good to hear you are happy with your one SP - that just might get me over the line. A couple of other cheaper options out there - Chinnese imports for $125ish which are also worth exploring but I just liked the idea of this one.

can you make them secure so extra stuff is still there at other end.like to zip tie or padlock zips?

Good question - I imagine this can be done - but I have shot them an email to investigate - will advise.

ski bag I have is actually a lightweight hard plastic container that slides up and down to any length and then pin it in the slots.


comes with a handle wheels so you just tow it along like your suitcase.




what you need is a lightweight hard outer shell container you slip your padded boards into.

Personally I reckon it falls down in one major design area...I used to be able to open my double board right out so I could sleep on it.
Came in handy when 2 cute Californian girls also needed somewhere to bed down on the deck of the overnight ferry from Mainland Mexico back in the day.

Personally I reckon it falls down in one major design area...I used to be able to open my double board right out so I could sleep on it.
Came in handy when 2 cute Californian girls also needed somewhere to bed down on the deck of the overnight ferry from Mainland Mexico back in the day.

They come with a sleeping map and fold out so you can sleep in them.

I just got a single cover Ted but keen to get the travel one.

LL - I used to have aboard bag with wheels when I lived in Europe. Was epic for the long walks between Terminals at Heathrow and to and from the train station. The problem was it was about 8.5kg without anything in it. The other problem was that the wheels got caught up with dirt and sand and all sorts of crap after one trip to Fiji where lots of walking was involved - so it was ditched.

Great idea - but it depends on the sorts of travel you are doing. With my snowboard case - easy to have wheels as most of the time you are just going straight from the airport to a shuttle to yr accom. With surfboards I find I am going to lots of places - and they normally require a walk. Especially when you are off the beaten track and the wheels just fail you. Not too mention that 8.5kg is just too much luggage to carry these days.

i did see a board bag in indo with BIG wheels, he was from euro.
have also seen wheels that can be strapped on .

well, its like this----

I have the aforementioned FCS wheeled bag ,and its quite heavy in itself, and while you can stuff a heap of boards in it (up to 7short boards but nothing else at that capacity )the weight then becomes a factor,the other issue with it is you need a turning area the size a small roundabout ,fine if you delight in taking out ignorant punters at the airport or pushy types but you soon get sick of doing a three point turn everywhere and knocking small children down!
Best bet is whatever board bag you have grab a free airport trolly and load it sloping vertically!
Your excuse for knocking ignorant punters over then is "sorry i didn't see you"
My last trip i managed 4 boards 1 speargun flippers mask , fishing rod ,fins and some minor tackle and a few towels ,and was around 31.9 kg with my foot under the back of it at the weigh in scales
The Ted model at the top looks a bit more manageable and am of the firm opinion that if the baggage handlers want something they will take the whole lot as they did to me circa 2002 on the way to Tahiti ,3 brand new boards and a ton of other stuff never saw it again.
Never worried too much about someone stealing it when i go to the loo or whatever ,if they are big enough to runoff with it then i won't be fronting them.
Pretty much everything else is in my carry on although i noticed a few of the surf resorts have some good packing lists
The essential item ... cap with a light ..in indo anyway !

Overstayer lockability - my favourite question! Take a breath, because I would rather provide you with too much information rather than not enough ?.

Firstly most bags are ?locked? by way of the zipper. The zipper is such a fragile weakpoint which is integral to most travel bag designs and in my personal estimation the zipper is also responsible for the premature death of an otherwise effective boardbag in over 80% of cases!

Surfers are used to zips busting just because they always have, but when a zip goes its usually too expensive to repair meaning the bag get turns into landfill and the surfer has to fork out more cash on a new bag with another zip that is probably going to corrode or get busted before the life of the boardbag is up. Its costly for the surfer, and just as importantly for the environment.

With the Overstayer our mission was to extend the life and versatility of the boardbag by removing the big long zipper of the main compartment and at the same time adding the functionality of a bag which could be used just as effectively for 1, 2 or 3 surfboards. Instead we use a series of strategically located Velcro patches to form the closure, and this has the added bonus of creating a cooling vent that runs along the length of the bag so your boards wont 'cook' as much as they will in a standard zipped coffin.

Secondly in answer to your Lockability question, the wrap style design has many advantages over a traditional coffin, but it is not lockable. If you are worried about gear getting stolen this is a remote possibility with the Overstayer like it is with any type of surfboard bag. It is unlikely however that the Overstayer would be targeted for any special attention from thieves, as the unique design means that the internal cleanzone storage compartment is effectively buried under your surfboards in a packed bag. Essentially this means that anyone who wants to access your gear stored in the cleanzone would first need to go to the trouble of removing all surfboards, then they would need to pull back the cleanzone compartment which opens from the far side of the bag, and only at that point would they have access to any gear from the un-zippered access. Its quite a lot of effort for an opportunistic thief, more difficult than a standard ?coffin? style boardbag, and probably quite hard to do inconspicuously within a ?surveillance? type of airport environment.

The other real advantage of our unique 'burrito' design is that the empty bag has a much smaller footprint when not being used, or when being stored in a small space such as on boats etc as it really is a super compact design. And when you get back from your travels and just need a local daybag for one surfboard, the Overstayer just "burrito's" down to one surfboard meaning you don?t have to buy an extra single daybag!

To back all of the above up we have sold thousands of Overstayers over 8 years and have team riders competing on the WQS who use them for their travels around the world where they are on another plane every week, and have never had a report of any security incidents.

If you go ahead with this bag I?m confident you?ll be stoked with the Overstayer due to its light-weight full protection, ease of checking in and easy storage.....the travel coffin which ticks all the boxes.
