Hi I'm looking for a new bag for my mail.

I was wondering what bags have lasted well for others.

I have always found the coil zips and reflective silver material fail more often.
It's hard to find ones with the plastics marine zippers though.

Any advice?

Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom,

I'm quite partial to the Ocean & Earth Aircon 10mm longboard covers. I have a couple and they're doing the protection racket nicely for me. I think they have metal zippers but so far so good after 3 years or so.

No doubt Creatures of Leisure and FCS make some nice 10mm covers too

Surf Aids Byron .. my A& E aircon . the reflective top side has gone brittle , tears easily, for that reason wouldn't consider buying again .

Has anyone ever travelled with 2 boards in individual covers and just tape them together with duct tape?

Sounds like a good plan mate what size boards are you taking?

HI Mac, I hope you are well mate.

I have a standard 7'6's and an 8'0 CW I travel with and my old 8'0 double travel bag has disintegrated with lack of use.

I'm starting to think about another Samoa trip at some stage in the future. From memory 8'0 is the longest the airline will take so will probably stick to those dimensions.

Someone duct taped two covers into one on a Maldives trip I went on. Looked pretty funny but I believe it held strong and worked well without any issues.

I've got a 9'3 log in a 9'6 O+E padded bag..if your going to leave your board on the roof of your car you need to double bag with a cloth cause once your bag gets melted wax attached to it you'll end of stuffing your bag cause you can't clean it.
Always get a bigger bag than your board!

If you have a bag that has a full zip, you can clean them using Wax and Grease remover. Wipe on with on cloth and wipe off with another. My go to board is in the van 24/7 and I clean the bag once a year, when it gets too hard to pull the board out.

Even without a full zipper, I've had some success with turning others inside-out to clean with wax n grease remover (I buy mine from Bunnings - the wax and grease remover, not the board bags)

Me too without a full zipper - it's doable. I have hopped / reached right in empty bags before... weird but works.

Hot water helps (pore it directly on the wax and in the bag, then soon after pore it out (on a surface you don't mind getting the residue on)).
Turn the bag as inside out as possible and put it in the sun for some of the wax to melt - then use a wax scraper.
Citrus bike degreaser works too.
Al needs some elbow grease and repeated efforts.

I replaced my corroded zip sliders with new ones as the zip and bag where still good.I brought them on line from www.vardhman.com.au..Seems a waste to throw out a perfectly good bag just because the slider has disintegrated . It cost $20 for ten sliders delivered which repaired my board bag and three kite bags ??.

Hi Tom,
If you are after a strong, durable all Australian made cover that is fully unzippable then check out SurfAids covers. They are brilliant!
