I surfed long boards many years back.

My latest effort is for the last 12 months surfing SUPs and going ok with my latest SUP 8' 7".

But now I would like to get back on a Long Board. I weigh about 76 kg and need a board to help quickley develop my paddling and wave catching skills on a Long Board.

Suggestions please.

And then progress back onto a shortboard?
My knowledge on LB is pretty drab so I'll leave it to the wise men of this forum. Take it away boys.

oh to be that weight once more

mate i have done the same thing in recent times ( but weigh a tad more ) and the best advise i got asking the same q was 9'6 23 x 3 .. at your weight you would catch every wave you paddled for

but i surf smaller waves sunny coast way

depends a bit on the waves your after too i guess

Nah, weekends when the waves are at and we're all getting stoked instead of posting... haha jokes, most of us SB'er seemingly from Perth. No waves for me this past week. Had an all day exam that's killed me. So bloody keen to go for a paddle though. Might have to join Pup and head over to your joint and nab one of your LB Mac . Sounds like all you boys live in wave heaven with all your stories

Just your typical science degree Mac. Hoping to go into something medical to help treat all you old blokes surfing war wounds aye So if I ever help relieve pain in your shoulders or reconstruct your knees, remember to let a wave through for this shortboarder

I know what you mean mate. Love sh** stirring. Even better when people take the bait and you can sit back like a good troll

**At the LB crew, sorry if my past gibes may have hit a nerve. I only mean well and get a good chuckle when you guys reply **

Yeah, footy injuries are a pain. I'm even feeling my finger/ ankle joints and I'm in my early 20's! Love the ocean though, seems to have had a healing effect. You better have a good surf for me mate. Catch a few waves in respect for the poor bugger stuck in a mountain of paperwork at the moment. Have a good one!

Mate, I'm not pimping anyone but noticed you are in Newcastle, locally there are a few shapers that would be more than willing to help you out. John at NSD is good for a chat so is Jye at surf factory and if you can catch Sheely at work he knows his stuff as well also Pieter seems to make some nice boards. None will pressure you to order anything.

At your weight I'd be looking at something around 9ish x 22 1/4 - 1/2 x 2 3/4 but depends where you surf, I'd guess beachies that tend to suck then fatten up. So keep the tail pulled in with some rocker and the nose relatively flat and probably about 19 wide.

He was from the dark side Mac, just making sure he knew I had no affiliation to any product, brand, shop or surfing guru, such as Laird or Gerry.

Scotty I like your thinking a toy for all conditions, nothing worse than stuck at home on your days off because you don't have the right gear.

Yeh mac, Just want to cover another base. When it's onshore and lumpy it's hard work on a Sup as I gotta constantly paddle to stay balanced. When it's time to catch a wave I'm 1/2 knackered - there's not much rest. Time and a place for a good workout. I just reckon a LB will get me back out there more and have a chat with the boys in between waves - just cruisin. My father-in-law is caretaker at the surf club so I got it made for storage.

Thanks Guys for my induction into this forum.

Sifting thru the 2 threads I got some help so thank you for that.

Yes I still SUP and now on a 8' 7" Jimmy Lewis Kwad -lov it.

I have purchased a long board which is 9' 4" x 23" x 3" - just get my arm around it as I have short arms.

In very poor surf I had a go today and to my surprise things went better than I anticipated.

I can see a good mix of SUP and Long Boarding now happening

Thx again
