Was at a certain surf shop in Bondi yesterday that had these retailed at 1500 bucks;
http://ecsboards.com.au/comp-mal-longboard-ecs-boards.html
That's a 1000 dollar mark up from the Internet price!
Also had ecs shorties at $1000. More than a FireWire.
There must be some seriously stupid tourists in Bondi if they actually sell any of these. Not knocking ecs - the quality looks pretty good for the Internet price..but the surf shop on Bondi must be run by nob rollers

hahahahahahaha I dunno how they can sell them for that price on the internet...unless you have been or are trying to make a living from selling boards I would be a bit reticent to say someone is ripping of someone or selling out....just my two cents

I'd say the rent for a shop at Bondi would be xx more than some WA South coast surf shop.
Don't know how that is a rip off realy, peeps can shop around.
Surf goods shops have had over priced goods for years, it still don't mean you have to part with your cash.

Crazy...& both mine were a lot cheaper than the internet price...but yeah, good shapes. Glassing can be hit & miss but Ryan looks after you in the event something dodgy happens...

Got an ECS shorty 5'6" for my young bloke last Christmas. He's 10 now it's still going strong, awesome shape and well made other than the fin plugs. They're crap.

Surely your son deserves a new board

I agree with Cobra (hate it when that happens )

1. Bondi shop rents are out of control
2. There is a captive market of idiots there
3. Its not hard to do some googling

So if they can get away with that why not? Caveat emptor is latin for 'let the buyer beware' and is a simple concept used to describe how the buyers of a product have less info than the seller. In this day and age some punter being taken advantage of in Bondi for an ECS surfboard has no one to blame but themselves. Most of those punters would be googling everything else they buy before departing with their hard earned. Having seen the way Teacup surfs on those ECS boards its clear there is nothing wrong with them. He surfs better than most. So anyone buying one of those boards should be pretty happy with the shapes as long as they stand the test of time - which anecdotally seems to be the case.

Annesley has set up shop a few doors down anyway selling an Australian made high quality product at 550 for a shorty. Just picked one up. So I guess the other shop will have to rely on the odd idiot who is willing to pay 2 x that.

Young bloke will probably get a new stick next year? after mine..

I agree that people will generally pay what they are happy to part with for a product. If people are silly enough to pay that sort of money for a product without researching, then so be it.

Its the retailer that will risk potential return business by derogatory word of mouth, but if that's a risk they're willing to take so be it.

With everything we pay too much.

Its cheaper for me to buy a Brand Wetsuit, landed in Country WA from the USA than it is up the road or in Oz. That's a shame. I'm all for supporting local business as long as its not at my Spence.

Local car dealer was upset that i didn't pay an extra $4000 that he was going to charge me for the new car stock standard. Instead drove the 400km up to Perth saved the 4k of the basic price with a heap of bits that would have saved me another 3k. Soryy but i wont pay a 7k premium to buy local, thats a month in Indo. But...some are happy to pay that.
