Wondering who everybody thinks is the better surfboard manufacturers left here in Australia now.
I live in the Newcastle area and we are lucky to have alot of quality board makers still operating even with cheap imports closing many doors over the last decade.
I've been riding Pieter Stockart's shapes for the last 3 years and have been blown away with the quality of his boards.
Who are the better board makers for you?

Haha, great boards Egan's.

I've got a two Egans sitting in my shed. A 6'0 single from late 70's and a 5'11 thruster from early 80's that Luke used to ride comp on.

Can't ride either of them anymore, too old, too broken, too chunky, but in their day or under the right feet they are awesome boards.

Might go nostalgic one day and give the single another crack, loved that board.

As far as best manufactures go...... So so many good shapers and under appreciated craftsmen in local zones. Pretty much every surf spot has there local legend shaper who will listen and make you a board that suits you and the conditions you surf.

I don't think there's any one shaper or if you like manufacturers that is "the" best, we all require something that helps us surf better or easier but it's all such a personal thing. As far as quality goes we have heaps of choices all over strayer, so many still in the Newcastle area where I first lived and surfed, riding boards by McCabe, Egan, Sheeley. Up the road at Forster you have Bob Brown though I suspect he might not make too many boards these days. Now in Vic names that come to mind include Greg Brown, Maurice Cole, Mark Phipps, the list goes on.
My son just added a Sean Nettleton 9'6" to his short board quiver ( never thought in a million years) who coincidentally worked with Browny and Cole earlier years. Anyways beautiful looking board full of quality.
Sam Egan said you can't make a perfect board

Oh **** it You haven't mentioned McTAVISH, Clearwater and those guys at Northcoast longboards just to name a couple, who all employ some of the best craftsman in the world of surfboard manufacturing and a huge hats off that they have out lasted the Asian imports. You don't know how lucky we are to have companies like these. So go support, order a new stick.

No not a plug as such but as mentioned personally I'm wrapped with his boards.
I own lots of different boards, I've also got a Nigel Beckham Twin fin that I really love riding and a small collection of boards by Sam Egan and Mick Byrnes both from here in Newcastle.

Obviously you have an issue with Pieter I assume Chrispy. Not sure what that is exactly but It's not the quality of boards hopefully which is what the post is about being who you think are the best manufacturers in Australia.

There's some great surfer / shapers in the Torquay area as mentioned before.
The only boards I've surfed after 12yrs out of the water have been hand shaped by Brett Munro, so I guess this is a plug for Munro Surfboards.
As Mac said, all the manufacturers in Byron have only the best guys working with them.

The crew at Yahoo in WA are making top quality boards with personal service at reasonable prices. I picked up a "7 4" moanna a few weeks ago.
