Today was a semi rare day when I went and sniffed out a reliable beachie, down at Moggs Creek, along The Great Ocean Road. My uncle has a nice little joint down there too, with spectacular views...

Most of you know I love the Point Breaks down here... How couldn't a Natural Footer love it down here!

Anyway, Winki looked OK, but a little bit of North wind bumping up the face. So I went to Moggs where it was cleaner. Beautiful water temp, crystal clear water, and scored some nice one. But the wave height and period was about half that of Winki... Same swell, but tighter periods on the beachies...

Quite punchy too, and the McTavish EvoII handled it really well. I still can't work out why Asea sold it at such a bargain! I think he was muttering something about kilo's and knee injuries...

Anyway, I was driving past Wayne Lynch's house, and I noticed a For Sale Sign. $4M. Not sure if this is The Lynch House, or the neighbor's actually... I think it might be the next door neighbor.

Real estate prices are no where near as interesting as point vs beachies and can be depressing.Post point surfs I use anti-inflamitories for shoulders whereas for beachies I take em for knees.(I'm not real impressed with middle age)

points for the long rides but beachies for the lesser crowds and more powerful wave imo where i surf.

i have had heaps more fun surfing beachies most off my life. the biggest surf i ever scored was a point break and has some good memories, yet im with doggie, the waves that stick in my mind the most are some of the reefs i grew up with down the south coast of NSW. those 3 second pits seem like a still picture in my mind, can even hear that sucking and surging sound as you are speeding through, yet it almost seems like slow motion(like that grom man)

I can not even believe some of the responses - its a no brainer if you ask me - a good point break anyday of the week over a beachie !! I am lucky that I live by 3 amazing reliable beachies but I would give my right arm for a point break again. I spent 4 yrs surfing perfect lefts at Raglan in my youth and that was beyond epic. These days I have to do runs down and up the coast when conditions are good for my point break fix.

Now if you add reefs to the equation it makes things a bit tougher.....we have some great reefs around here when conditions are good and they are insane!!! I have had some of the best waves of my life on reef breaks in Indo, West Aust and Fiji. Insane.

I have a small adventure soon to some juicy reef breaks which may sway me though......

Ditto... We have miles of beaches but a good point is hard to find around these parts.

Where are you off to Ted?

come on your kidding me. i can pretty much get a wave everyday of the week on a beachie. yet a point fmd it could be forever then a fight to the death or plain old survival tactics. with a reef it might not be on all the time, yet when it is you know it will not be to crowded.

shortboard- beachie anyday. can't be bother with crowds anymore. there is always someone further up the point then you. beachies you can use your experience to get waves.

sup- pointbreaks- never have trouble getting waves- bombs, wide ones or smash it inside with the paddle power to get there all the types of waves

Point breaks in big populated areas suck - but if you hit up the ones a little out of the way you will find them mid week with hardly anyone out and you will have the time of your life. Up there in Northern NSW and SE Queensland its a different story thats for sure. You would not catch me out there for quids!!

Being super ugly helps imho

Ted,mid week here at the points is a walk in the park compared to weekends but I always find my spot somehow

I am with Chrispy on this one give me 30 or 40 20 sec beachies in a session with the occasional rare drop in. Mac the 200 metre walls up there are few and far between and when they are there for me it is heart in throat these days
But when very rarely I did get one from LM to GM I relived it for months

the coolie breaks can be cruel. you can have the best surf of your life. waves, barrels just come at you.

go there the very next day and swear to god you'll never surf there ever again.

its a bit like golf- think you've got it nailed and it goes and bites you

Biggest hassle with point breaks is the SB's sitting so far inside, with the peaks breaking on their heads, makes it hard to get some.

Beachies with their multiple takeoff zones means getting more waves, but then its hard hakka getting out sometimes.

Fence sitter.

Mate I asked the question a little while back if he was moving, as I heard a rumour he was looking at selling and moving somewhere around the Yamba area.
I hope this is correct as I would love a custom gun
As for Points V beachies??
Don't care as long as its clean. Also like it over 5 - 6 foot to keep the crowds down [}:)]
