Howdy folks,

Getting back into surfing and heading to Bali in a few weeks and looking for some cruisy spots.

I'm on an 8'6" x 22" x 3 1/8" (yeh I know - LB life begins at 9' ) and hoping for some easy-ish waves without a killer paddle out and too much hassle in the line-up.

Was looking at Canggu for starters. Any thoughts? Need reef booties for treck out?

Staying at Seminyak.

Last year I took the esky lid out at Balinga and was awesome but F1 fast Lefts. I'm pretty ratsh!t on lefts (natural footer) more than ever these days, so would prefer rights and a cruisier ride (if poss). Cruisy lefts are ok tho if the spot is easy allround.

10th Honeymoon so can't travel super far for the waves but wifey is pretty understanding and knows I am hanging for some mocean time.

Cheers

I was there last March and although it was onshore a bit I had no trouble just surfing out the front on the beachie on a hire board. No dramas with crowds and higher tide is the go. There's always banks.
You wont have to travel too far if you dont want to.
Medewi is a place I haven't surfed but it looks like an ideal mal wave but its a fair drive to get there.

No booties required, both beach breaks, the left at Canguu has sections of rock, but as you said you want to go right.Couple of hundred meters you'll see guys on the bank which goes left and right, right being the better.

Padma is the street where 14 year old got stung the other day

Aha! The Royal Hotel Seminyak Abimanyu St.

Should be about 500m Sth to Padma. Cheers Mac. Will check out Padma and Canggu for sure. Stock standard tourist fare for most i guess but I will be stoked to get some cruisy rides.

Had quick fang on the new(ish) board again today. Really happy with it so far. Good to paddle, fast and agile enough (surprisingly for what i expected of an 8'6")When it takes off it's fast and accelerates heaps just as i'm getting up - so i keep falling off the back like a total noob! Ha ha it's been a while.. good to be back out there tho.

Feel sorry for that kid, maybe he should have stuck to the waves? Glad I am older and (a little bit) wiser.

If there is even the slightest chance you will need booties get them early, get them tight and practice with them before you go.

The practice is because as you are getting to your feet the booties grip differently to the deck and your feet can end up in the wrong place at a critical time.

I use booties at all times. Years ago I severed a tendon in my toe on broken glass in the shorebreak. I have surfed over the odd bit of coral and in winter they keep my feet warm. And I am old enough and lucky enough to suffer from gout.
