We have been invited to a wedding in Whistler - sadly its in August and not Nov /Dec / Jan / Feb!! Anyway a few of us lads thought we might just send the girls and save our pennies for another adventure that was a bit more surf orientated. Yest arvo / last night over a few jars we started work shopping a few ideas and thought why don't we go to Baja after the wedding for a few weeks.......so my question to you all is two fold......1. Would you recommend it if you have been there (any suggestions / locations) and 2. Did you feel relatively safe whilst over there? I think we will fly south and then drive north so we do not have to drive through the northern region. If we go we would rent a house for a few weeks so if you have any first hand experience or could make any suggestions of towns / places that have good waves and places of interest to keep the girls entertained that would be great. We can always send them down to Cabo for a few days to misbehave.

August is prime season down that way - with no shortage of swell and favourable winds plus lots of long right hand point breaks

I have done a bit of goggling but nothing like some first hand knowledge.....if you are worried about naming secret spots just PM me Thanks.

I was over there about 12 years ago and found Baja to be super crowded with yanks and expensive...most of the stuff was equal to what you would pay in the states...we did fin it safe enough to camp out on the beach and hitch hike everywhere to save cash....waves were good to really good around Todo's Santo's and if you had a boat or motorbike there would probably be a bunch of spots that others really can't get to....if I went back I would fly straight over the top of Baja down to Puerto Escondido and then work my way north...Puerto is super heavy dudty but you will get spat out of one of the biggest fattest barrels of you life if you have the nuts to go over the edge....north from there are a whole bunch of waves that we didn't know the names of but were kick ass with no one out....no accomodation either

Hi Ted

There is some good threads in the US 666 site Stand Up Zone, with Baja being their part of the world. Here is a grainy shot from 1985 the last time I was there

Thanks fellas.....been a little worried about the northern end after a mate got pulled over a few years back and done for coke possession - which was not theirs - by the cops who pulled them over and searched their truck. They got off with a quick $500 payment but none the less was a scary incident for them. I will check out that 666 site after a few beers - only way I will be able to face it
