Does anyone know how you can tell if a McTavish board is made in Australia or if it was made in Thailand.
My understanding is that all fibre glass boards are made in Australia and its the epoxies (SLX and Surftech) that are made in Thailand.
Thanks

Yes. But there are some "PU" boards too from Thailand. They are SO EASY TO PICK !! Answer;

From Aust: Board Dimensions & Signature is laid down in pencil, by hand.
From Asia: Board Dimensions are "Printed Text", and I think the signature is a tissue paper print.

I'll get you a picture.

Pick a board off this line-up, and check out the Available Colours/Designs.... these set designs come from Asia, and won't be repeated from Australia.

Correct. Also the Asia boards have the GSI sticker decal too...

I have a McT GSI SLX and not impressed with the amount of deck compressions given it only gets used when it's 1ft...

Im with you GPA, I have a 9'6 F/B glassed in asia somewhere? Has the blue GSI stamp on ot.

Gets compression dings if I look at it too hard, I have never really surfed serious waves and it looks like I have been pig dogging a shore break in Hawaii, or bashing people over the head with it.

I have damaged it myself and had it properly fixed but I know the ones I have caused and the mystery ones. Mates cant believe it when they look at the amount of compression digns on it.

It even creased right across when I was surfng a little beachie...next time will get an Oz glassed one. Does not seem to affect the way it rides , not that I have anything to compare it to?

Not the first or the last to state this issue, I wonder if any testing will occur to dispell the "myth". Mind you if it is proven could spell trouble for claims of faulty glassing? Til then its one persons word against anothers.

Love how the F/B rides none the less, I forget it is 9'6 sometimes. Would love a 9'1 Oz made for the next board.

Agree with GPA i got caught with the gsi PU F/Ball and off loaded it before too many shatters etc became noticeable.Stick with the boards made in Australia logo, glassing is way much better.

If the Mctavish was made in Thailand it says "made in thailand" on the bottom and will also have a small blue global surf industries decal on the bottom. The slx boards are indeed made in thailand. Also not sure if they still do it but up until recently the local boards on the front said "endless progression" under the big M logo and the thai boards said "surfboards" or words to that effect.

AND without giving away my preference I should add that the australian Mcts are glassed by the best surfboard glasser in the world and the fins in the australian Mcts are made by the best fin maker in the world - thats not just my opinion - thats a fact

Sorry to say this but,I told ya so

Geez thats expensive be interesting on how they go at that price.

Sounds like going high end brands both AUS and US could be a scoop
in the NZ market.

I've been offered good bucks on my UFO,the factory cant keep up with
the demand atm.Keep me/use posted on the sale price.

And all B/S aside - as I have advised our nz bros before - get your ass on a plane and come over for a week and take your pre-ordered custom back with you and claim the tax back as you leave Do the sums - it makes sense.
