You know the one I am talking about, the one off the NSW coast. Is it ok for longboarding or purely a short board wave? Also, how safe is parking at the reserve nearby? I've heard the Aboriginal community down the road are "rich" over the stuff they've stolen from cars parked there, and the local cop doesn't give a stuff.

Lots of car parks in NSW are like that. Just be smart and do not leave anything of value in it or insight. When its heaving I would leave the LB at home

Even when it's small it is not a long board wave.
Unless you are Beau Young, get yourself a down the line pocket rocket. Over the years have surfed it many times and it is one of my faves in Oz, especially when the right is working.

I surfed it in 86 with a few mates and it's definitely no LB wave.
We drove into the aboriginal commune by accident and did a u turn quick smart.
5 white fellas in a F100 turned a few heads.

Not a longboard wave as said Mr Tall and blowy.

The indigenous community there are decent people, with a few hot surfers amongst them in my day. I am sure the young guys are hotter nowadays.

As far as theft goes I don't think it would be any different to most out of the way car parks anywhere on the coast in NSW, just because it has an indigenous community nearby doesn't make it somewhere that is worse than others.

I have had my car broken into more times in Cronulla than I ever did on the South. Coast.

There are some good longboard waves nearby.

Seek and you will find.

There are lots of reef waves within 90 mins of pipe that are lb friendly espfecially if you have a 4b and have access to good maps . Pipe is not suited and lb can be a danger to other surfers when pipe is on.

Never surfed there, but I got warned off going there by some locals 18 months ago. I got told I wouldn't be welcome and there was a good chance my car would be vandalised. There's heaps of other waves around there so I surfed them instead. The area is thick with quality.

This actually still happens?

Aust, NZ, Indo, States - loads of places. Even the main stream media still like to cover them occasionally. This has been an interesting read the last 10 months or so

There's plenty of other places around to surf so why take your chances on a place that really isn't a longboard wave with a reputation for break ins and unfriendly locals . There's so many other places to surf down there . Let us know how you go

The best part of the story was that it wasn't them hitting Cyclops that annoyed the locals (like most of us, they were of the opinion they were welcome to it), but rather their behaviour at the local beachies before or after the swell.

I have also seen the same locals stand in front of a mates missus and tell her photos weren't allowed of that wave very politely. I have also seen them grab boards out of guys hands and say "You are welcome to surf here a mate, but don't bring four" and put the boards back into the covers. It wasn't quite so polite then.

So when I got warned off Aussie Pipe, I didn't bother questioning or arguing.
