had my head buried in spreadsheets and charts for over a month now with a little water saving exercise I'm doing so I reckon I look forward to my weekend surfs more than anyone. And it's now Saturday, so as soon as that dog gets its walk, the stix in the car and I'm off to the briny.

Bought a new springy last weekend, it's one of those ones without the long zipper up the back. You know,.....the ones that pull over your head? Great not to get that feeling of having an ice cube placed in the small of your back as you paddle out because water is getting through the zipper.

Good !!! I hope it blew a gale all day and the sausages were blown off the bbq into the dirt and you had a crappy day.

Yep you guessed it - I worked all day and kept hearing how perfect a day it was

Didn't get a surf today. Had a nice surf yesterday afternoon at Ballina south wall. Nice cruisy waves, even caught a few good ones. hardly anyone out except the three of us. Even surfed in boardies and a rashie. The morning surf at Tallows was a different story, unfit as.

Over the next few days it's explore all the spots I've heard about and read about over the years. For those of you who live here, don't take this area for granted. Not only for the waves but for the natural beauty (just don't tell anyone).

This is an area I've read about and seen in the movies and I am overawed by it all.

I'm looking forward to some good waves.

The women here are also beautiful (sssssh, don't tell my wife I said that).

I'll keep you posted, hopefully by the end of my stay I'll get back into the surfing rhythm I had in my youth.

Well it's been nearly two weeks since I got back from Byron. On reflection it was great to see all those places made famous by surf mags, movies and the like. Thanks for the great time you showed us Neil.

I suppose it comes as no surprise to all you seasoned travellers, but from someone who hasn't been on a faraway surf trip for many a decade it was a revelation. Many of you know the story, get married, have kids, work and so on. You still keep surfing but those surf trips fall by the wayside.

By many people's standards the surf wasn't epic.

What was important was that for a little over a week it was as if I was back in my halcyon days of surfing and living for the moment. I also had several little epiphanies, but that is a separate story.

My most memorable session was at Broken Head. Not the most fantastic conditions, but memorable. Only the three of us out, nice (smallish) waves, warm water and beautiful surroundings. It was all very 70's "heyman, far out" and memories that will last for a long time.

Came away from the whole experience in a much better frame of mind with plans to do it all again. I've already put my first $20 away for the next trip.
Sorry I didn't give much detail but I hope you get the feeling of just how this trip affected the now less cynical me.

Ive been at the buisness end of building a house. Ive never had a project take up so much of my time. It does look good should be moved in soon. 6m swell yesterday with out of control winds but it looks good for the next few days. Happy hunting.
