I know there's a few old school skaters in the woodworks here, so thought id share a bit of excitement.

Back in 1975 group of Albany high school kids raised some money to build a skate park. They raised $3000.00 and the local council backed them and the dream and donated some land that was an old quarry ( Now prime realestate ) and some more money, the snake run was born and the rest as they say is history. This was the first community driven purpose built skate park in the world.

Saturday the 13th of Feb 2016 there will be a 40th anniversary celebration. There's a cool doco that's been made and an awesome day planned with heaps of skating the concrete wave ( the snake run), bands and all sorts of chaos as part of the Festival of Perth.

Im bummed as I'm back at work and going to miss it, but have been involved for the past couple of weeks rehearsals so know it's going to be awesome. What's killing me most is I'm missing out on seeing one of my Chilhood heroes Russ Howell who's come over from the state for the occasion, just as he did in 1976 Who will be skating with my young bloke.

Who remembers this Dude?

Would love to be there, sounds like a great day. The place is so fun, I skated it a few times in my 20's. One of the best places I ever skated along with "Edge" in Freo that used to have thrash bands playing live on weekends sometimes in the early 90's while you skated. Can imagine how good tomorrow will be, hopefully someone is taking some video mate & you might be able to share it with us

I Remember the edge that was awesome! Had a huge punch up with some Bogan's there one night, Great band playing and they didn't miss a beat cant remember what they were called, Like a scene out of a movie very surreal.

That park is about 800m down Hare st from our family's home, sadly I've lost a little too much skin over the years and these days feel a little too old and slow.. Its fun on the bike still..

It would be great with a re surface

Hey JB, my inlaws are still on Hare st, best place for swell checks
Lots of skin gone over the years and during rehearsals for today's event we had one broken foot, 1 broken leg a severe concussion and a lot of skin left behind . but im not copping the too old bit. Geoff who's apart of the gig today, has been skating it full on for the past couple of weeks and he's over 60.

check this out.

Are you refereeing to the Hip that juts out from their. Ive got caught on on that many times moving too fast.

The last time we were their a guy had a skate board with the swivelling front trucks, carving style very similar to a surfboard. I always swore i wouldn't return to Albany with out one, but honestly i think the speed of the hill is almost past me these days, I'm just not fast enough on the retreat on my feet..

The view on a typical Albany day

thats the evel bump...yes! Those craver boards are awesome on the track. There's two guys who rip on them on that track Saz and Glen. Glens around 50 I guess and just fully owns it. Epic to watch.

oh... And th ore people that believe that's a typical Albany day the better I reckon
