Quick odd question.

Just how rife is agroness in the surf?

I've unfortunately got everything going for me. Beginner, make that adult beginner. And from Brisbane so I'm always going to be a blowin everywhere I go..

Main concern is that I'm a proper pushover. And as soon as someone tells me to fark of I'm likely to break speed records exciting the water and never return to that location. That and or drop into a fetal position and cry like a little bitch..

Do I really have that much to worry about?

No problem, as long as you keep eating your greens!

Just go where no one else is or as smaller crowd as possible until you develop some skills. Loads of beachies north and south of you. Stay away from the points of Nossa, Burleigh and Snapper for a while.

Everyone was / still is a learner at some stage. As long as you use common sense and keep out of harms way as much as possible you will be sweet

You can find agro anywhere, some places more than others. The busier the more likely you will find it. Look for places where the waves might not be as good as Snapper/Rainbow Bay/Kirra/Burleigh/Currumbin, but don't attract the crowds. Like the places in between & times with less people. Like when it is small or the winds are not favorable. You can still have a great time in onshore conditions & its often better fun than it looks. Its a bit harder in summer, but uncrowded waves can still be found if your not fussy.

Cheers guys.. The etiquette side of things doesn't seem to be that tricky. Putting it to practise should hopefully keep me out of trouble.

Side question.. Watching the weekend weather reports on telly, I think they usually show snapper. Place looks like there is over 100 people in the water. It's not like that everywhere is it?

lol no its one of the most famous places in the world for having epic conditions. But like anywhere, its not always the best place to be on any given day. Can still be a great place to go in small conditions if you have a longboard, but bigger days I'd recommend you go elsewhere. Especially if you live in Brissy, beachies North or South way closer than Snaps would be a way better option for you.....

The best thing to do with Agro is outsurf the Pricks. don't let them phase you and don't go to spots where your more entry level skills could be a detriment. you will learn as fast as you let yourself.

And if they are too awful to you, tell em that their mother is good in the sack.

I suggest you be a good distance away, and a strong paddler if you say it, unlike Jimmy Carr, you won't have a bunch of nightclub bouncers to protect you.

I'm a bigger lad so hopefully that deters most people. I'm just a big teddy bear though.

Remember their will always be one dick in the surf. Just smile and feel sorry for them, they clearly have no idea about surfing

YOu'll find from time to time you may get in the way, or worse, someone gets in your way, its just par for the coarse. Just smile and either say sorry, or let them know its okay, accidents happen.. Remember the best surfer is the one with the biggest smile


I had one of the worst surfs ever (Hassled) recently. What made it even worse was it was less than 1 foot closeouts..

It almost sounds like you're expecting trouble. You'll be right just get out there and enjoy it .

It's funny, haven't had any agro in the water for a long time. Maybe it's because I will go further up the beach or just wait my turn.
Don't stress too much about it, as SMH said just get out and enjoy it.

bEACH BREAKS ARE BEST ,AS YOU CAN NORMALLY WALK DOWN THE BEACH A BIT AND GET YOUR OWN PEAK.SOMETIMES THE REEF BREAKS JUST ARENT WORTH THE HASSEL. TIMING IS EVERYTHING TOO, WAIT TILL THE WINDS IN OR GO ABOUT MIDDAY ,AFTER THE MORNING CREW GET OUT.

Eatyourgreens, you're more than welcome to join a few of us, sometimes safety in numbers and it's handy to be called onto waves when your buddies can see there's nobody else on it.

As has been said places like Kirra, Snapper, Rainbow are hot spots for both quality waves and higher numbers in the water but quality waves can still be got there if you're happy to sit further down the line inside the main break and take off points. Sometimes you just need to wait a bit longer but you'll still get some good ones with no issues and not be in anybody's way.

Or just do a bit of searching along the beaches for a nice little bank that you can have all to yourself, generally not as long rides but you'll have a ball just the same without the crowd.
