What do you prefer ankle or knee

9'1 log

What is better to use 9ft leash or 10ft

I think here the 'age old' questions are about fins!

But with leashes, I prefer ankle. It's just what I'm used to. The leash is the least of my concerns when trying to walk the board!
9' leash would be plenty for me on a 9'1", but I've never had ten toes over the nose.... so there's that to consider in my response.

Fins well I rely on a single in all my logs, greenough 4a 10.5 works in pretty much everything, as for leash yes I'm not at 10 over yet so no idea

You've described me. I'm a combination of Mr Gumby and Lurch when I start walking up the board so I go with ankle just because I am used to it. Never gets in my way.

Ive never hung five or ten either. That last six inches or so May as well be a mile.

10 foot leash
sometimes though a lot of shops only have the 9 footer leashes available

always an ankle

had a knee one and it nearly ripped my leg in half like a fat man eating a chicken wing

advantage is it seems to disperse a bit of energy by the time it pulls tight with a 9,4 hanging off the end

the disadvantage is 10 feet is two more feet of leash than an 8 feet to either swim to or grab and spin your board before next set

that half a second or so can see you get one more on the head than not

Ankle for me. They feel better to me than knee leashes.

I use a 9 foot leash on my 9 footer, I would also use a 9 foot leash on a 9'1".

I went with a knee leash, only for the fact they are harder to get, never used one always ankle but I want to look like the pros

Bought a second hand Mal a few years ago with a knee leash and gave it a go. 5 minutes later I put it around my ankle.
Don't know how people can stand wearing them up under the knee.

Thinking someone told me years ago the general rule was the length of the leg rope should be the length of the board . in saying that personally I use a 9 foot leg rope on all my boards ( 5 ft 6 through to 9 foot 6 ) . Prefer to have the board away from me when I come back up - not Surfing in crowded breaks like some of you though .

Speaking of leashes/leg ropes, I bought a new one yesterday.
Clearly labelled as a 9' leash. Here it is laid out along my 11' board.
You do the math.

Is it just the rubber that is 9'?

Could be just the rubber that's 9' - although I'd argue it's still longer. I've currently got it hanging up with a little weight on the end to get the kinks out (they annoy me). I'll measure it after. With it sitting on the board as it was in those pics, I'd get damn close to getting the toes over..... if I had the skill. I'd have to assume it's close to 10' in length, out of the box, so to speak.
