Thinking we should start up a topic for the Aussie rules for us minority group that follow the southern game .something along the lines of The Game For Real Men for the NRL .

Topic Name ideas - Up There Gazaly ? You Know How It Feels ( the theme song for this year ) ? Or as we used to call it in Qld Aerial Pingpong ? Catch Me F..k Me ?

Any ideas

Can't believe the games this weekend Hawks flogged by the Tigers , Cats struggling to beat the Bulldogs , and the Suns flogged again by a team they were supposed to go close to beating . Glad I don't beat on the footy would have done my dough this weekend .

Yes, you should start a new topic... Different title!

Cats (my team!) - well The Bulldogs actually have a great list, and have lost very few from the teams that went to 3 Prelim Finals in a row. The Bulldogs are actually on top of my Under Rated List.

Top of my Over Rated List - Hawks. They are good, but they just can't get their crap together!

Port - I picked them with confidence (it was actually Hawks who I was less sure about). Port have been flying under the radar a touch, and Suns haven't really shown anything to make me think about picking them.

Saints - Flying high at the moment. I would love the Swans to win though... But I picked The Saints with utmost confidence. Swans are without and Goodes, plus they are playing away in Melbourne.

Crows v Pies tonight... Hard to pick... In Adelaide. Crows?

Has there ever been a punch up in AFL ? You know when they actually throw a punch and it lands on the chops. I'm not taking the piss, I just wonder cause the small amount of AFL I have viewed over the years I have only seen bitch slapping. Ok so maybe I am taking the piss a bit.

I think the great man Dermott Brereton was responsible for a few.....just did a quick google to confirm and found this

A famous incident in 1988 involved Hawthorn's rival Essendon at Waverley Park. Brereton ran through the three quarter time huddle much to the surprise of the Bomber players causing a scuffle to break out. This incident was in retaliation to a free kick paid against Brereton for kissing Essendon's Billy Duckworth while Jason Dunstall lined up for goal. Dunstall kicked the goal but due to Brereton's indiscretion, the goal was disallowed. Brereton, fuming, ran through Essendon's huddle to prove a point. Post match, Essendon's coach, Kevin Sheedy shrugged off the event as insignificant, quipping, "Just another mad Irishman!"

If you ever get the chance to read his book - do so. He is a legend.

Yep, Dermott was great. Dished it out... and happily wore a few too. '89 Grand Final... Dermie copped one, but his Hawks got the better of us Cats. Hawk Dipper also ended up in hospital with broken ribs and a punctured lung. He ran the game out though. Another legend!

Plus, Gary Ablett Senior (yet another legend) kicked 9 goals on that day, plus was best on field winning the Norm Smith Medal, in a losing team. A rare feat. Cats went down by just 6 points, and Hawks won Back-to-Back Premierships (beating Melbourne in the previous season's Grand Final by a HUGE margin!).

you throw a punch in afl and you are out for a very long time.you've seen the jersey grab 4" punch no doubt

a few years ago a mate of mine was a member of the gabba trust and we would drive up to watch the lions.

i had league up bringing then played some rugby i can tell you it is a very brutal game in parts and then tap soft as in others parts.

vossy and the scott brothers were very good at dishing it out and copping it with little fuss.

you really have to see a tough game live to be able to comment properly i believe.

league is made for tv, afl is much better live

How about a song for the thread..."How tight are my shorts" sung to the Bee Gees song "How deep is my love". Both being highly appropriate.

Very very funny Stuk . But yep you are back in the Warwick Capper era

Must agree with Lacey watched my 1 st game live 2 weeks ago and these blokes are tough . Sam Mitchell gave his opposite an uppercut in front of us missed by the umps which would have dropped most guys . And the miles these blokes run to get the ball is unbelievable I can see why Karmichael Hunt had to drop about 50 kilos to keep up .

Whats a good title Simondo .

Sounds like the Saints are giving the Swans a touch up . Hate to be a NewSouth Welshman this week

Spent the arvo being close lined. Was considering throwing a few haymakers but just played the ball and not the man instead. Got flogged though. In terms of punch up's at the amateur level Scott, seems to happen atleast once per game at my club

I guess the lack of video replays would add to the rough play newguy. Btw who's Scott ? Call me Scotty - just sounded weird.
