any reports on the 7s 8ft board for the heavier bloke and this means you as well mac.Ihave spoken to people i know just want an unbiased opion.

Seriously, these boards do work really well - we sell more of these than anything else if that means anything. - Mark

i'm hearing you mark thanks mate i haven't heard any bad comment on them,surfed with 5 of you're fellow board club members yesterday must be getting ready for the 1st comp of the year.

asea, my mate is a complete board snob. he owns a 6'2? completly loves it. i almost bought one from his recommendation alone

i bought that suicide egg instead. it is for sale anyone,flesh is extra

Quite honestly, I think you would be better looking at a custom for a mid length....a genuine custom that is & not a colour change custom that "some" production builders will make for you. Something to suit YOU !!
I'm looking at a mid length myself, altho I did say I had made my "last one"

A friend I know who is a dedicated Mal man, active in club surfing etc, has one and told me since he has got it, he has not been riding his 9 footers. He said that he wished it came in a 9 so he could use it in comps. Saw him get a couple of waves and it looked like it went well

paddles as good as a l/board, good in grunty waves, will not handle suckie ones, love it as a quad

I have one, but don't have enough experience to rate it.

Have noticed that if the nose goes under even a bit while paddling for a wave, it just stays under unless you stop paddling. Easily floats my 92kg. Stable to get up on and turns well in the white. Maybe in a month or so I can tell you what it is like in baby green waves.

Asea - I'm 115kg 45yo and surf the 7'3" 7S in PU no worries - waist to overhead sucky fast beachies... I have considered a number of other 'big boys' boards like the Bobsled and Simon Anderson shapes - but have been really happy with the 7S so I'm now looking at the new epoxy Superfish XL II model next.

Put it this way - I have dropped from a four board quiver to two - this and a McT FB Evo - but the 7S is my go-to board unless it is less than waist high.

asea I've had the 7'3 &8 enjoy both boards think I rode the 8 a bit more being lazy, even been thinking about another one just found the pu boards got knocked around a bit so flicked them on ,

Hi Climber,

They are both 8x 23 x 3. The one without wax has the nose and tail thinned out a bit and a little more rocker.

They are Wizstix from the Central Coast and shaped by the same guy who shaped the 7s plug. These have a heavier glass job.

They paddle and surf fast and go really well in anything that it is not pitching. I think the uf8 has more rocker and better suited to really hollow waves.

Asea I have a mate who's got a 7'3" and I reckon he's roughly 110kgs. It is a poly one and has pressure dents in it fairly badly. It goes well for him so design and size all good but I think an epoxy one is he go if you're going to get one, just so it lasts your moneys worth.

Hi guys.To me an 8 foot board is a taint board.It taint this and taint that.would not swap my 9 foot hi performance mals for them.If you cant duck dive a 9 footer you wont dive an 8 footer.You really have to go back to around 7 foot to notice any real difference ie take off late, suckier waves etc.but sometimes difference makes a difference.love tank xxxxxx

I reckon my poly 7S is now 3+ years old - and although it has a few dents on the deck and some 'collision' dings on the bottom from surfing crowded metro breaks it is not any worse than any other board I have owned. Colour is still pretty good too - very little browning (even where there was a long term fracture around the swallow tail).

I'm going epoxy next time for the extra float/paddling benefit as my weight is up & fitness is down from carrying a few major injuries... PLUS they've tweaked the bottom and tail shape quite a bit.

I kinda agree. I had a custom 8ft'er that I thought was pretty good - but wanted to go smaller for good days and longer for the small surf days. The 8ft'er has not left the shed ever since I got the 7'3" 7S. I only keep it for the kids as a 'holiday board'.

Well as I say, I'm 115kg and go OK. Also I know there's someone else on the forum who is also 115kg riding the 7'3" in epoxy - and I think Locky is 120kg riding a 7'2".

With the 7S they are 22" wide and carry a lot of the volume to the rail - but use a step deck to maintain performance rails. 53lt from memory. The website has some good spec info + a couple of YouTube clips where the design of the board is discussed.

Go to the FireWire website they have a volume calculator and all the 7s boards have their volume on the GSI website.

@ 115kg for Intermediate surfer F/W calc says between 48 - 62lt volume... so the 7S SuperFish XL 7'3" sits pretty close to the middle at 53lt.
