I've just come back from a four day trip to PP. I've seen and followed the PP stories and the PP referencing as if to keep the locale a big secret... let me tell you the real secret...its no secret and from what I see hasn't been for a long time.

My wife and I have been camping at PP since 1987 when we would go there at this time of year, IE: mid week and outside of school hols, we would be the only ones in the camping ground. We were fortunate that we had family friends that lived there year round in one of the cabins, maybe you met and knew old Norm and Mavis Eacott, sadly now deceased.

Arriving Thursday arvo we found the place about 60% full which increased to about 80% occupancy by Friday arvo, a sad difference from 25 years ago. Having said all that its still a place where you pay your money, select your spot and light your fire after set up and there is a lot of places more regulated than that.

Got some two footers Friday and Saturday out the front with a half dozen crowd, but the fun was still to come. After getting the word from my new neighbours, a couple of really nice respectful 20 something young blokes, I headed to QH Sunday morn .............................. sorry my eyes just glazed over again... six foot no wind A frames throwing left down the beach and right into the corner where you could just plug into the rip and sail out with the rip into the line up. Three hours later my shoulders gave up and I headed back for breaky. I cracked it again after lunch for another two hours when it had reduced to around the 3 -4 ft mark and the tide had dropped making it a little faster. All in all one of the best surf days I've ever had. About the only downer was I had dinged my 9' Egan the day before the trip surfing Salty Pt and only had my 9'6"McT which was too much board given the size and that it was a beach break not a point like salty.

Too many waves to count, to many beers to mention ( I know how many but I'm not telling you blokes) Its still a great spot I'd hate to go there during school hols but like many of you I'm able to find a quite time when it generally turns it on. We took our own water, firewood and refrigeration so it came out $27 per night. We also became the topic of conversation a little bit. We have horses and the wife and daughters ride dressage so while the show season is in a lull at the moment we took all the dividers out and used the horse float as our camper, we certainly got into a few conversations as a result.

For my money you have just pipped Obct's man-love, go-left post for Post of the Year. I used to camp at a rock that was quite flat when it was 2 or 3 km north into LH or south to B. Codes are funny but good. I think the towns are almost joined now. Can't go back. But some bits of the coastline with lots of national park around them have stood the test of time a bit better than the super accessible places.
Besides, you can always take the horses if you want to go up the beach away from the crowds. Four-hoof-drive.

Nice story Stuk but you know what they say QH rocks when its on !! Glad you got some good ones. No doubt it was also cranking at your local as well! I first went there in 2000 and it does seem to get busier every year but nothing beats a few cold ones whilst cooking a big hunk of meat on the open fire after a good day in the waves even if you are in horse float

Heard there are hundreds of drums of Petro-chemicals buried near the pisser block .... also heard there are gazillions of drug crazed sand flies that chew flesh to the bone ..... the resident pelicans are known to have carried off (never to be seen again!) errant Longboarders who have been silly enough to wear Boat Shoes to the Point ..... old Myrtle the Moll haunts the sandhills ..... uber Blowfish prevent paddling out .... geez who the fark would want to go there .....

Edit: ....... geez even the Blue Manna crabs are as big as goats I am now informed parasite moths that crawl into wetties & rashies at night the place is bad ju ju
