Hey guys,

I am new to this website and new to surfing. I have a 7'10 board that I am learning on in SA and I have a single fin on it now. I was wondering is their any advantage to going to 2 +1 for learning. If so do I need to get a smaller single fin and what fins do I need for a 2+1 approx what size. I have a large centre fin box.

Any help would be appreciated for someone who knows nothing about surfing.

I think you will be fine on the single until you get to a stage of turning the board,then go the 2 + 1 set up which will allow you to turn the board easier.

Nice mate like the artwork,looks like its got some hip in the back thirdcould be the angle of the photo.

I agree with Mac, till you get out of the whitewater a single is the best option, more stable but depends how big the fin is too, maybe put a photo up of your fins. If the fin is to small they are useless, in that type of board a big single fin seems to work best for me.

Nice shape mate,the hip type boards I surf from the tail and your length board is perfect for that.

This is the fin I have, it is 9''. I bought it from Josh at wetfins.com.au and he was very knowledgable and helpful. Couldnt have asked for better service and I think I got the fin in the next day or two.

This fin should be all good? Like I said I have no idea about surfing I'm from Canada!

and drop in on every shortboarder you see mate,give them nothing.

No big advantage of side biters when learning. But nothing wrong with having them in either. Depends on your surfing style...

I've been riding Longboards for about 10 years, and I'm still learning, still want to try more boards, different boards... The perfect board search never really ever stops (does it Asea?!). I got a cracker of a board off Asea, but I still want more boards!

I had heaps of fun learning on my McTavish Original model. I didn't really know exactly what I was buying at the time. But it turned out to be a beautiful board for both learning, and also a great board to progress on. I will always remember her!

Thanks so much guys, you are all so helpful. I am so incredibly stoked on surfing, its so much fun and different to what I'm used to. All the sports I have ever done has involved a quiver and I dont think surfing will be any different.
