I had to go from a long board to a stand up as my back required it as prone paddling was painful due to being a 57 year old builder.
The stand up is fine, I ride a 10 ft 6in laird, a pretty close to longboard style sup, but I'd love to be able to ride a long board again.
My thoughts have started around a 12ft longboard, with the idea of being able to paddle on my knees, getting around the prone paddling problem.
What I'd like is some ideas on what to get made. Obviously 12ft, but after that width rocker tailshape etc.
I'm just a single fin cruiser and surf only up to about 4ft weigh 80kgs, intermediate.
Your ideas would be appreciated especially form anyone who rides a 12ft board.
Cheers

Hey dude,

Check this post www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Surfing/Longboarding/Creative-Army-101-Sweet-Love-by-Josh-Constable/

I'm around 80kg's also and this thing knee paddles and cruises amazing!!! Going slightly shorter than the 12' will also help with taking off in steeper waves and turning.
Might be worth a call to Josh anyways, he's a super nice guy and knows his craft well.

I'd also check out some of the Dead Kooks cruisers, I hear they are amazing and BigSpazz from on here owns one also.. check out this thread... www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Surfing/Longboarding/Gliders/

Cheers

Bigspazz is our resident big longboard guru however I believe he is currently overseas. Why not go for a 10.6 you can stretch the width for knee paddling and it wouldn't miss the outline templet up, 24 plus wide x 3 1/4 maybe at your weight it would paddle like a V8.

Mac is on the ball.
I have ridden a 10' x 24" x 3 1/2", which I can knee paddle and it still turns. I'm about to order one (I'm 59, 76kg, 174cm tall and one replaced hip).
By the way, I also ride the Laird 10'6" surf tech sup.

Ocean Blue Surfboard on the Central Coast is having an April sale.

They will build you any board upto 10 foot for 500 with 60 dollars shipping.

Sounds like a good experiment to me.

Better than a popout, not as good as a CW.

My mate mostly surfs it these days, its not a good noserider but it turns and cruises pretty good, reasonable wave catcher/paddler.

Thanks for the info. Plenty to think about. How wide can you go without it becoming a stand up. I'm not worried about the length at 12ft, but am more concerned with it getting to,wide and loosing the true longboard feel.

Perhaps try the 11' NSP ?

I know they are a pop out but super fun and high volume.

Another good pop out is the 11 foot surftech Micky Munoz ultra glide. Lighter and pretty easy to turn for a big board. A mate of mine had one a while back.

Lol. Just taking the odd break that's all. Back to it in a minute.

I've never seen so many 12 footers in my life as here in Waikiki.

They are the board of choice for sure.

Munoz's everywhere.

Aloha.
