That's insane! It's such a great board!
To add to coincidences, I ordered up a custom board bag from Surf Aids in Bryon (sensational job, don't hesitate to order from them!). It arrived Wednesday. Drove up to Kawana Waters for a work gig yesterday (Thursday) with board on the roof, in the surf aids bag... and got absolutely smashed by a hailstorm. Took me two beers before I was even game to pull the board out from its bag.... not a mark on the board.

... and then there was a hole.

Don't even know how it happened.
it's pretty much right inline with where my roof rack straps run, so maybe a stick or stone went into the bag with the board, then strapping it down caused the damage (although, I don't strap it down that hard!)?
or I've leant on the board when waxing it. I don't consciously lean on the board when waxing... but this morning was coupled with a hangover, so who really knows?

Regardless, it's well and truly christened now.
I reckon a dab of solar Rez and a sticker over the top, and she'll be good to go.

Took this for its maiden paddle today. Fast as fork, paddles really well, and I put a hole in it. . 11'x24"x4". About 120 litres. I'm 110kg, old, and pretty well forked.

I dropped it on the concrete pad at the shower. The hole is about 25mm wide, and spongy. Nothing some tape won't hold for a few years.

So I've wanted to get mu hands on a glider for over a year but couldn't justify the cost of a new one having never had a go on one before.
So I spent a lot of time day dreaming and googling and came across this thread with a heap of info and it got me frothing to get one again.

As luck would have it I found a Bryan Bates 12' glider on gumtree and drove from palmy up to the sunny coast to pick it up last week.

Had a few surfs at the ally on it and MY GOD, it is fun (I didn't kill any one on it either which was a plus)

I'm lost who owns it now.

Out at my local point this morning and one of the guys was out on a 11' glider and catching anything that moved and the board looked nice and loose as well. Turns out it was a soft top. A crime one. Had a look at them online when I got back home...$1300 for a softy...Oi vey! Still the guy owned the line up on it and taking a $3K board into the summer swarms to ride knee high waves like there were today would be a nerve racking thing compared to a soft top.

I think I said to SP once " If you are heading out into the lineup on a softop glider you better be damn sure you're a good surfer"

I've got one of those Crime Gliders... in 11ft...

They are a proper board though, made at the same factory as the Thunderbolt Tech Boards (Harley Ingleby Tollhurst, CJ, Sallas etc). Thunderbolt's are the best made boards on the market IMO.

Compared to a regular glider, the Crime's are very light so they don't have the momentum of a trad glider, but still superfun, fast and loose. 3 Stringers so at least they flex more like a normal board (not like a Softech /wavestorm noodle).

Takayama does a 9' In the pink soft top that rips also.

I hate the process of wax and the fact it gets into everything... using one of these means I never have to worry about it.

And for a funboard, I think these style of boards (softops) are going to really become popular, once the average punter understands they can still rip on em.

While I clearly need to be investing more in local shapers - I do like the look of the ITP softy.

Been stalking this thread for ages with the dream of adding a Glider to the quiver

Would be riding fat, small point breaks predominantly (and occasionally some outer reef bombs) and doing some long paddles for fun. My board storage area is super tight so concerned about dinging up the board every time I manoeuvre it into its concrete, steel holding pen

I'm considering between these options.
- Crime 11' - I ride a shorter foamie as love the ease and no ding dramas, foamies equal fun - cost about $1400
- Tuflite takayama prince kuhio 11' - can get a deal on a perfect condition demo about $1400
- 2nd hand 11' prince kuhio - looks great, and the idea of a more traditional glass weighted glide is appealing - $2100

look forward to thoughts/feedback on this lifetime investment

Sounds great but a true glider has a flat rocker not sure how it would go on those bombs your talking about
