Big gamble there if it doesn't work. It's only money!!! Having said that, I have been thinking of doing something similar to my M14. Just too scared.

Why , because i was boredand the board had way to much volume and way to unstable.

Ha ha, people must laugh at the extra low freeboard of my yacht. It might be a wet ride, but when it comes to the crunch, the thing sits like a rock. Hopefully the theory will also work here?

Is a dugouts volume measured including the void...or is it measured just by the amount of actual physical board that's left

What a great experiment. The board might not the easiest thing to get back onto now if you fall. Maybe you could open up the back like on SIC X14 to let the deck water off? Probably best to check the waterline first before making any changes like that though I guess.

Did you get good GPS speed measurements of you paddling it in flat windless conditions before your alterations so you can see if you have affected speed as well as stability?

Good job! It will only improve it. Get it back in the water and load it with your body weight in anything and see how it sits, keep digging it out till your about 1-2" above water level

It will probably work a treat. Bcease nothing could be as bad as their original stability.

One of the Hire School owners up here has one and he challenges new paddlers to see how long they can stay on it.

No gps but ive done the pool test floats my 90kg fine seems heaps more stable.Take it down the creek later see how it paddles just have to wait till it stops rainingIts lighter too was 16kg now 14.5 so that should help a bit.

Wil need to put some drain holes in , no probs in flat water stayed dry but went over a couple boat waves and took on some water. Hopefully i get that right and ill give my self a pass mark

Trust me its more practical than pretty. Its a bit like that ad should have went to specsavers Coreban should think about bringing back the turbo with the recessed deck , id buy one

I Had no doubt it wouldn't and now its possible to stand on it and put power down it will be super interesting to know if there theory behind the hull actually has any effect. good job

well i achieved what i thought i would , it is super stable you couldnt fall off if you tried , previously it was a struggle even in flat water I would always fall especially when tired. As for the hull yes I do think it works the board has very good glide and cuts through the water nicely. I think if this type of board was done professionally and in a light construction would be a winner. What it has reinforced to me anyway , is I think sunken deck boards have a huge advantage over those that are not , the extra stability means you can stroke with full power and balance a big advantage I think.

Sunken decks do have their down sides.
Try paddling in a Melbourne winter standing in a puddle.

At the risk of re igniting the booty debate, if you are standing in a puddle, even on a relatively shallow dished deck like NSP - DC14, it seems to supply water to the booties that then dry off, evaporatively cooling your feet. Not the best result when it's 6 degrees or something.
At least that's my theory. Lots of research done, but may be wrong conclusion.
Worse in "Flash Dry" type booties than smooth neoprene.
Much better at the moment with about 20 degree water and no booties.
