Creek just checked dims on SP25 for first time .....sales pitch says it's good for performance on small to medium surf . Is this your take on it or is it best suited to larger waves ? Also with this board is it wiser to opt for more volume given the outline shape , dims and rail shape ?
Hey boots,
The SP25 is a small to medium wave groveler, designed to maximize performance in average waves.
This is the same board that Sean Pointer won the Barbados APP Pro on.
I feel that I surf this board best of all my boards.
The very pointy nose creates a need to mind the nose on steep drops and control the board from the tail, more than say, the Placid or Flow V2.
Other than that it is a very snappy board that is a pleasure to surf.
Go back and watch the video above.... watch my first wave.... it shows just how snappy this board is with a big, 72 year old on it.
Very fast, vertical and easy float, all in a sweet little board.
I could easily surf the 8'8 at 235 lbs... but the 8'11 is comfortable for me and surfs better than I do.
Just for the info: I have paddled the 8'5 at 126 L on flatwater without great effort.
The SP25 is designed to put a lot of volume under your back foot for maximum float per size and the shape of the board makes it super easy to turn up the face
Just because I like to give max info:
my friends have both the 8'5 SP25 and 8'6 Kanga.... they both seem to prefer the Kanga for ease of use.
My Kanga is so much bigger than my Sp25 that I can't compare them, although I feel the SP25 will be faster and outperform the Kanga at equal size.
The Placid is the all around easiest of the boards below, but not as fast as the SP25
Board to board comps:
8'7 Placid - 8'5 SP25 - 8'6 Kanga

8'6 Kanga - 8'5 SP25 - 8'7 Placid
8'5 SP25 --- a thing of beauty!!!!
