The Mctavish 10 is quite tippy for such a big board and especially if you are relatively new to sup. I haven't ridden a 10 Mana but the 9.5 Mana is at least twice as stable as the Mct 10' and is a much more fun board to surf. In my opinion what makes it more fun is a mixture of its stability (without being corky) and its ability to turn on a dime from wherever you are standing as opposed to the Mct where you really need to be back on the tail (which is an unstable place on this board) to put in a hard turn with any success. The Mct is a better paddler (faster) than the naish and probably punches out through whitewater a little better due to its pointier nose but thats about the only upside in my opinion. My wife and I have paddled both boards and I have surfed both boards and we both personally prefer the naish 9.5 as a more fun/easier/lighter everyday board.

Have not tried the McTavish but have a 9'5" mana. It's my first board and I'm 6'2" and 85kg. My wife has a 10'5" starboard drive and I find the 9'5" mana way more stable. Naish claim it's 190ltrs so should be way more stable than the McTavish, although it's hard to work out where those litters are as it's very maneuverable. I'd go the 9'5" over the 10'. I'm even thinking of getting the 9' mana when it hits in Nov.

bro i'd stick it out with the MC10', give it a few months n then u'll be away. it'll be way more responsive the a 31" wide board once your dialed in on it

Have you surfed the 9'5 Mana?

We're finding wide boards actual feel looser! Wider makes for a rounder template. As opposed to narrow, which makes the rails more parallel and the board stiffer.

For smaller waves, I'll take wide and loose over narrow and faster with stiff turning.

I know there are other factors, but in very general terms, that's what the crew I hang with are finding when we demo all different shapes.

Wide may not be sexy, but it sure is fun

Stick with it. even if your a fat bastard still stick with it. Even if your a fat bastard without any muscles still stick with it. Your lucky this sport come along cause all the fat bastards are finally getting to surf as they couldn't when it was just prone surfing.

Dont be a lazy fat sup'per on a lazy arse fat board. At least try to get some muscles and be gratefull you can be on the water.

You obviously thought you was pretty good by buying the Tavish so convert that fat arse into something that can handle it.

No offence to any fatties but its how it is.

I'm 6'5 and 106

I liked the way the 10 mct surfed over the 10 mana. The 10 mana while it surfed well just didn't float my boat, well it did it's really stable it kinda reminded me of the 9' x 32" starboard in that regard. If your looking at the mana try the 9'5.

Other options that were more stable for me than the mct that i liked the way they surfed where the 10' anderson and the starboard drive.
