Hi im new to Australia and hoping for a bit of advice

id like to get into sup-ing and also windsurfing, I've done tasters in both before but not much else
im wondering if anyone can advise on a board that could do both, and the thoughts on inflatable ones to facilitate storage/transport? I appreciate they are less performance driven but wonder if they are good for someone starting out?

ive done lots of internet searching but am not much wiser so would be grateful for any hints from those more experienced

Forget inflatables unless it's the only option.. eg storage and transport reasons.

The 12'x34" Naish Crosover is a good inflatable to concider..

You need big.. Going slightly too small would be a huge mistake.. btw how heavy are you?

One board that comes to mind that would be perfect is an 11'2"x 32" Naish Mana.

I have the same board from from a couple of years ago and it was called the Quest back then.. It paddles and windsurfs great.

Another great board worth concidering is the new LT Windsurfer One Design.. It's a windsurfer that also paddles great.
I have one and it's similar dimensions but slightly narrower at 30" wide than the Naish board that is 32" wide. It works great as a SUP board.

I have a mana 9.5 a was wondering if a sail could be adapted to this model

Unfortunately no it doesn't.

You need a board with a mast base insert (as well as a breather screw) and there's only a few boards in the Naish range that have both.

But if the 9'5" Mana did I think you'd need to be an experienced windsurfer to windsurf a board as small as the 9'5" Mana because uphauling would be tricky and you'd also be restricted to only sailing in strong winds.

After seeing the results of a sail on a sup/windsurfer there's no way I would get a combo.
Man sailing at cosy corner ( mini tubes ) has wipe out, mast rips track out exposing gaping hole to styro, enough to see no blocks around track.

I agree.. if you have any intention of going near any waves no matter how small a dedicated windsurfing board will always be best but these crossover sup/windsurfers are fine for learning to windsurf and gentle flat water sailing.

These boards are an exception - they have a proper mast track.

Was it a brand with some windsurfing credentials?

I had no issue Windsurfing a SUP board in waves, but it was always brands that knew how to make sailboards: Exocet, AHD, Drops. I guess Starboard, Naish, Jimmy Lewis, etc... know how to reinforce a mast track properly (and also the upper side of the rails sections on which the mast can hit).

Yes it was, and I was just as surprised as the owner.

What you get really depends on your ambitions for each sport.

Getting a board that does both sports well will be a compromise.
If you go for an inflatable, it is a compromise of a compromise.

Watch out for heavily rocketed Sups, they are not good to windup.

As DJ says the windsurfer LT may be good if your paddling is on flat water.
