Yes and no regarding the cold. I have a good wetsuit, boots, and a hot outdoor shower for post surf warm up! I don't get cold surfing for 2-3 hours. Water temp is a balmy 8 degrees. Air temp may be 10 degrees on that day. Warm compared to my east coast cousins but definately cold compared to down under. I have never surfed without a full wetsuit.......sort of what you get used to. The crowds do thin out in the winter but still a few of us out there every day. If the surf is good maybe 10-20 spread out over the beach. If the surf is really good there is an understanding with some of the work crews that you can take a few hours off to surf. When there was the O'Neil Cold water classic in Tofino a few years back the entire town shut down to watch the competition!
